Major Duties

• Performs a variety of tasks involved with installing, modifying, troubleshooting and repairing new and existing systems, including, but not limited to: condensers, chillers, air handlers, compressed air, humidifying, dehumidifying, filtering, refrigerators, freezers and computer based Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS).
• Maintains, repairs and installs new and existing plumbing systems, to include, but not limited to: high/ low pressure piping, sanitary sewer, steam heat, steam generation, circulating, vacuum, and condensate pumps, expansion tanks, radiators, lavatories, commodes, and water heaters.

• Troubleshoots, calibrates, balances and operates central heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and steam systems and their associated equipment and controls within the facility.
• At a minimum, possesses a Universal Technician certification in accordance with 40 CFR part 82, subpart F, as well as a Gas Fitters License.
• Creates leak-free joints in piping and tubing systems by using the appropriate method, to include, but not limited to: solder, silver solder, Teflon sealant, and compression fittings.
• Possesses the knowledge of electrical wiring and related components of pumps, air handlers, chillers, water heaters, exhaust fans, electronic valves, etc. and be able to troubleshoot, repair and/or install such items.

• Confers with the Maintenance Scheduler and/or the M&R Operations Supervisor regarding his findings relative to maintenance and repairs to utility systems and equipment and helps plan and coordinate the repair of any issues.

This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The purpose of the position is to serve as an inspector of surface maintenance equipment to ensure that physical and operating characteristics are within acceptable standards and specifications. Duties involve complex inspection work that requires a wide variety of inspection processes and techniques. May assist higher graded inspectors, as required.

• Inspects a large variety of heavy-duty mobile equipment (i.e., combat, tactical, etc.) and automotive vehicles (i.e., attack tanks, large cranes, tank retrievers, fire trucks, bridge transporters, armored vehicle launched bridges, bulldozers, road graders, crawler tractors, power shovels, self propelled earth compacting equipment, self propelled artillery, etc.). May also inspect heavy artillery, small arms, powered support and other equipment or components of equal or lesser complexity. May assist higher-graded inspectors to perform inspections on equipment repairs.
• Inspects complex, interrelated mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic and electrical systems, equipment and their components while in operation or in a standby condition. Inspects and performs tests to braking, steering, and differential systems, which are mechanically integrated with the transmission; to large engines, which directly power multiple hydraulic and pneumatic systems; to intricate fuel injection systems; to turret stabilization systems; and to other systems combined in a single, complex mechanical assembly. A SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER, WL-5801-11, (1) Leader Duties: a. Assigns work orders to specific crewmembers and selects workers for various jobs on the basis of knowledge, skills, and abilities. Passes on to workers instructions received from the supervisor, demonstrates proper work methods, and starts work. Insures that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
b. Assures that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy. Checks work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisor's instructions, work orders, and established shop procedures on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines; and directs or advises other workers to follow supervisor's instructions and to meet deadlines. Answers workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Interprets work instructions and assists lower graded repairers or trainees in the more difficult and complex tasks.
(2) Non-Supervisory Duties: a. Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and major repair on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles. This may include self-propelled artillery, tracked cargo and personnel carriers, road graders, mobile cranes, front loaders, bulldozers, power shovels, tanks, tracked combat vehicles, all terrain vehicles, semi trailers, forklifts, tractors, and accessory equipment. b. Troubleshoots equipment with a variety of the mechanically complex major systems and diagnoses difficult performance problems and the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks, uses test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges and computer diagnostic tools. Utilizes embedded diagnostics in equipment and a wide variety of specialized original equipment manufacturer system analyzers in order to determine the exact nature or extent of repair
c. Removes and disassembles engines and complex major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems. Makes the appropriate repairs, overhaul, or modifications in accordance with the proper repair specifications and procedures, and improvises repair techniques when standard procedures are not available. d. Independently performs repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations. e. Conducts readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity. Main Responsibilities

Maintain and monitor complex clients’ systems:

• Responsible for technical support for complex systems and problems, ensuring performance of the asset (client) is maintained throughout the course of the contract
• Collate and evaluate statistical data related to the performance of the assets
• Support Data analytics team with ongoing improvement on automation of data gathering, analysis and reporting, including fault detection and root cause identification

Manage responses to emergency situations:

• Facilitate responses to emergency situations and recovery activities

Support Customer Support/Business Development teams in creating further business opportunities:

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Controls, Energy or Environmental Engineering.
• Possess people management experience
• 2-5 years’ experience in an Energy or Mechanical Engineering is an added advantage
• Professional Energy/Sustainability related certification a plus
• Qualification in Refrigeration and Air-conditioning and Energy Management will be an added advantage
