As a Personnel Security Specialist (National Security) within the Office of Management Services, some of your specific duties will include:

• Serves as the Personnel Security Specialist National Security Officer for USGS responsible for implementing all aspects of a Sensitive Compartmented Information and collateral security program for classified information.
• Implements a comprehensive security adjudication program for USGS in accordance with Security Executive Agent policy and instructions to ensure all personnel nominated for a security position are properly vetted, investigated, and adjudicated.
• Adjudicates background investigation cases, FBI fingerprint results, and other documents to identify the presence or absence of derogatory information, the impact of various kinds of derogatory information, and applying the appropriate suitability factors and/or adjudicative guidelines pertaining to suitability or national security determinations.
• Prepares all correspondence to include case summaries, letters of interrogatory, cover letters, notice of decisions, and any other correspondence as it relates to personnel security screening/adjudication actions.
• Serves as a subject matter consultant to the Branch Chief on national security personnel matters to include participating on interdisciplinary teams in the bureau, DOI, and interagency teams to support reengineering efforts, strategic planning, and personnel security measures and developing personnel security policy and guidance material.
• Administers the national security information education and awareness program for USGS to include providing initial security indoctrinations and annual refresher training to individuals holding national security clearances.

• Serves as editor of the post command information newspaper.
• Responsible for the newspaper's planning, management and operations, and the effective utilization of the command information.

As a SECURITY OFFICER at the GS-0080-14 some of your typical work assignments may include:

• Interpreting the intent of legislation, regulations, policies, plans, processes, procedures, concepts, methods, and systems of the basic functions of personnel security, physical security, industrial security, and information security.
• Applying technical authority specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities in nuclear command and control physical security; and
  oversee the establishment, implementation, evaluation, and compliance of Component-level policies, plans, processes, and procedures required to implement departmental security requirements for designated facilities under Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff cognizance that can make and transmit a nuclear control order as part of the U.S. Nuclear Command and Control System.

• Coordinates the prioritization of, approvals for and conduct of surveys of U.S. diplomatic facilities overseas. Advises modifications to survey methodology, scope, collection and dissemination mechanisms. Resolves issues related to survey roll-out.
• Provides expert advice and program assistance to stakeholders. Briefs decision-makers on United States policy and tactics in crisis management abroad; and provides in-depth training to overseas personnel.
• Provides technical support to management to ensure timely, appropriate and effective military assistance is provided during heightened hostilities, crises, and evacuations at high threat overseas posts.
• Facilitates diplomatic passport issuance and ensures compliance with Department policies and procedures pertaining to the issuance and control of Diplomatic Passports. Coordinates the preparation of visa requests.

• Serve as multi-discipline Security Specialist, responsible for providing security support to two or more intelligence-related security programs as defined by the Army Regulation 380 series.
