Claims Specialists conduct interviews with the public to obtain, clarify, and verify information about initial and continuing eligibility for retirement, survivors, disability, health insurance benefits, and eligibility for supplemental security income including State supplements. In addition, they resolve discrepancies, clarify issues and make final decisions for initial and post-entitlement for benefits and payments; adjudicate and authorize entitlement or disallowance actions at all levels of difficulty and complexity under programs administered by SSA.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Investigates origin and cause of claims by contacting the appropriate parties including insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, contractors, experts, special investigation unit, other adjusters, and public personnel.
• Identify complex issues and find assistance. Handle claims on a good faith basis.
• Handle both 1st party and 3rd party claims under multiple policies types and numerous endorsements.
• Conduct on-site inspections when needed, evaluates damages, and handles claim negotiations with insureds, claimants, attorneys, and public adjusters.
• Respond to customer inquiries, makes appropriate decisions and close files.
• Interpret and determine policies, leases, by-laws, declarations, articles and contract coverages and apply to all parties for assigned losses.
• Provide all parties with claim process and status; answer questions or redirect to other areas.

Requirements:

• You will have familiarity with Xactimate or prior property field claims experience (alternatively, you may have construction, restoration, or mitigation experience). You will have 2-10 years of experience.
• Your offer will be made contingent on the results of applicable background checks.

The AmFam Trial Attorney provides legal representation, either personally or by retaining and supervising outside counsel that handles moderately complex litigation involving either the corporation and its insured within established corporate guidelines and the applicable code of professional responsibility. You will personally handle litigation of a most complex nature involving either the corporation and its insured within established corporate guidelines, applicable standards of good faith. You will report to the Senior Manager, Legal.

Primary Accountabilities:

• You will handle litigation involving either the corporation and its insured within established corporate guidelines and the applicable code of professional responsibility.
• You will analyze file as litigation progresses and evaluate cases and seeks settlement.
• You will conduct discovery (e.g. written interrogatories, requests for production of documents, and depositions).
• You will conduct motion practice.
• You will draft all necessary pleadings, papers and briefs to advance litigation.
• You will conduct necessary research to support drafting activities.
• You will advocate client position in all forums (state and federal court, alternative dispute resolution, administrative tribunals and regulatory hearings) and circumstances.
• You will stay current on state statutes and court decisions and analyzes how statutes and court decisions affect the interpretation and enforceability of policy provisions.
• You may have or develop areas of specialty practice (e.g. special property, workers` compensation, environmental law, commercial coverage).
• You will litigate in Milwaukee on a regular basis.

Qualifications:

• 3+ Years of Insurance litigation experience
• Demonstrated experience preparing civil pleadings, motions and discovery and deposing witnesses.
• Solid understanding of rules of Professional Responsibility for the jurisdiction in which they practice.
• Solid knowledge and understanding of tort, contract, and insurance law.
• Wisconsin licensed
• Located in or near Milwaukee
