About the role:

MHA has an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Finance Manager focussing on our agency spending throughout the organisation.

Working as part of our commercial finance team you will develop and maintain strong cross-functional relationships within finance and across the wider organisation. The team follow a hybrid-working model with 2 days a week based at Epworth House.

Using your commercial finance acumen you will manage the working relationships of finance and operations staff delivering timely, accurate information and adding valuable insight.

My client, a well established pensions company based in the Chesterfield area, are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented full-time Finance and Payroll Officer to join their team. Your new role

The Finance and Payroll officer will be responsible for maintaining the financial transactions of the general accounting processes within the area of pensions and to ensure that a professional and efficient administration payroll service is provided.

• Input of payments to accounting and banking systems
• Preparation of and keying of journals
• Carrying out of ledger and bank reconciliations
• Reconciling and requesting scheme contributions
• Maintenance of various bank accounts in accordance with the client requirements and arrange funding as required
• Administration and reconciliation of member AVC investments
• Liaise with various 3rd parties
• Process Members' pension benefits based on their entitlements under the rules of the pension scheme and legislation
• Update relevant pension administration databases and systems
• Communicate pension payment information to members, both verbally and in writing, and to answer members' queries.
• Maintain systems to ensure accuracy of information and the corresponding correct pension payments.
• Document work processes and provide assistance to the other members of the Pension Administration teams
• Provide and assist with "on the job" training to the team, as required.
• Assist with one-off projects
• Advise and liaise with external organisations/clients on pension adjustments, payments and communications.
• Undertake work in different teams within Pension Administration according to business needs.
• Undertake specific additional roles, dependent upon the team in which they are working.
• Other duties, as required.

What you'll need to succeed

• Experience in a payroll and pension role in the education sector.
• Experience in accounts, journals and reconciliations.
• Well-developed IT skills, including the use of internal systems for inputting and reporting, MS Word and Excel.
• Detailed knowledge and understanding of payroll systems, taxation, National Insurance, and pension administration.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and take effective action to deal with these.
• The ability to work on his own initiative and to meet tight deadlines.
• Attention to detail, excellent time management, and organisation
• AAT Part Qualified (Preferable)
• Experience in pension software (Preferable)

Your new role
In this role you will be providing the commercial Business Partnering for the organisation mixed with elements of FP&A. This role will report directly to the Head of Finance and provide support to the wider finance team.

• Evaluating business cases for investment decisions, challenging assumptions and ensuring compliance with governance, making recommendations to improve return on investment.
• Drive and embed new initiatives to improve P&L performance. Prioritise project issues for review with BU leads, sponsors, and SteerCo.
• Provide expert advice and an independent view of the Finance Leadership Team, CFO, and other stakeholders.
• Drive a commercial focus and challenge strategic planning and decision-making within the business unit.
• Participate in cross Finance initiatives and work streams to include support for any audit work carried out.

This role is a fantastic opportunity to work with a Global retail brand at the forefront of their market, handling the Finances for an arm of their leisure business. Overseeing a small but experienced team of Finance Assistants, this role will work with key stakeholders within the business portfolio to produce accounts, handle budgets and provide information for forecasting.

Ideally, I am wanting to hear from a Finance Manager with experience within the hospitality, hotelier or food & beverage industries to have an understanding of variable food and drink product costings alongside labour costing. SAGE familiarity would be beneficial. This great role might suit a candidate looking to take the next step in their accounting career and there will be support offered to further career development with professional training if desired.

Responsibilities in the role would be:

* To liaise closely with all Heads of Departments to ensure that we have the right financial controls in all areas of the business

* To build budgets and forecasts for the two operating units with the group and work closely with the General Managers to constantly improve costs, controls, efficiencies

* To support the wider accounts team

* Vat returns

* Debtor/creditors review

* Payroll forecast

* Bank reconciliations

* Accruals/Prepayments

* Fixed Asset register management

* Management of audit

* Monthly control account

* Developing & implementing new procedures

* Managing property sales

* Management of 60+ properties

* Companies house administration

* Managing team of 4 finance assistants

Experience and Skills:

* Experience with several cost centres and intercompany transactions

* Experience of Sage

* Experience of Opera, Procure Wizard and Access Workspace is advantageous but not essential

* Hotels/Leisure or Food & Beverage account experience would be advantageous

* CIMA or AAT (or part) accreditation
