Job Details

• Co-owner of our steerage model, ensuring repair vs total loss decisions are based on the best indemnity and customer outcomes
  
• Contributing and executing an engineering strategy which delivers engineering services at the lowest appropriate and class-leading cost
  
• Using data to enable fast and effective decision making for the whole team to drive change, identifying and mitigating risks associated with all changes and recommendations
  
• Building key stakeholder relationships to allow the smooth implementation of change as quickly and effectively as possible
  
• Continuously striving to conduct as much engineering as possible internally, whilst managing the performance and costs of external engineering suppliers
  
• Leading a re-rating of our know your opponent intelligence - working with claims colleagues to ensure that any KYO strategy lands
  
  
  

Skills we would love you to have

• Knowledge & experience of the UK Motor repair market, including a good understanding of claims and risk management principles and practices
  
• A technical understanding in the principles of motor body repair methods and knowledge of motor insurance/subrogation
  
• Strong commercial acumen (especially around cost mitigation) and comfortable with innovation and disruption, whilst evolving current practices

About the role
The College of Science and Engineering is home to the academic schools of: Chemistry, Computing and Mathematical Sciences, Engineering, Geology & Geography, and Physics & Astronomy. Teaching and research activity in these schools are supported by College Technicians covering a range of specialist areas. One such area is manufacturing of unique devices and prototypes, and leading the education of students in manufacturing techniques and Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) principles.
The role requires the full delivery of technical skills training/teaching of undergraduate students to carry out rapid prototyping, turning and milling operations, bench skills and fitting techniques. You will also support undergraduate and postgraduate project manufacture within the School of Engineering, to include extra-curricular activities, such as Formula Student and students entering external prototyping competitions. Other responsibilities also include: supervising the Engineering Manufacture Workshop for task allocation; managing workflow; providing advice and guidance; best practice procedures; and ensuring manufacture request deadlines are met.
You will be able to lead students in the School of Engineering in the design and manufacture of unique devices, to include repair, modification and construction of new and existing equipment and components, alongside the provision of specialist technical expertise. You will be able to collaborate with academic staff to design and develop technical skills training and manufacturing activities.
About you
You will have demonstrable experience and knowledge of operating conventional and CNC engineering manufacture equipment, including vertical milling and horizontal turning operations. You will be required to use a full range of mechanical workshop skills for the manufacture of research equipment and components, and provide instruction in how to do so. Within your application, please refer to your skills and experiences that demonstrate your ability to take on these activities.

Job Details

• Developing a complete understanding of all internal and supplier engineering processes, new commercial initiatives, best practice and the impact of inefficient processes, reviews or outcomes on customer journey, leakage etc.
  
• Retaining an up to date technical knowledge with new motor repair regulations and policies
  
• Designing and developing relevant, effective audit approaches and capture mechanisms which are flexible to accommodate our changing business needs and allow to capture, monitor and measure performance
  
• Managing relationships with senior personnel and effectively communicating across Engineer Teams, commercial teams, operational leaderships to ensure scoping, attendance and feedback is all delivered effectively
  
• Completing and managing on site and remote risk based audits when necessary, with ability to interpret and apply technical knowledge to contract builds and terms to develop audit questions
  
• Providing recommendations on areas for development and improvement, this could be savings, better contract adherence, KPI/SLA adherence and impact on customer journey and outcomes
  
  
  

Skills we would love you to have

• Strong technical knowledge and proven experience within the motor industry with either vehicle bodywork or mechanical knowledge (Audatex and Glassmatix estimating systems knowledge beneficial)
  
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret MI and identify areas of risk and opportunity
  
• Excellent problem solving skills coupled with a proactive approach to work
