Job Title:                                             Design Engineering Director

Reports to:                                         Senior Design Engineering Group Director

Job Overview:

Cadence Design Systems is looking for a design engineering director to lead and develop our new and exciting ultra-high speed controller IP developments.

Previous IEEE 802.3 ethernet experience desired but not essential. 

You will be technically leading the ethernet IP and subsystem design/verification team as we develop solutions for the latest 802.3 200G,400G,800G and 1.6T ethernet standards. 

In addition to controller IP developments, there is a parallel requirement to collaborate with the Cadence high speed SerDes teams in order to produce full ethernet subsystems and solutions for our customers.

Job Qualifications

• Previous experience developing and building teams to realize business goals, proving line management and support to complete hiring needs.
• Extensive protocol knowledge in key protocols such as DDR, PCIe, CXL, UCIe, Ethernet, Flash Storage etc.
• Ability to architect SOC/NOC based solutions, within a team, providing direction and leadership to extended team.
• Extensive RTL implementation knowledge, including full design flow knowledge from Marketing requirements document (MRD) to completing GDSII based solution.
• Extensive design flow knowledge so we can provide the most efficient flows to meet business goals, including Synthesis, Constraint development, LINT, Clock domain crossing (CDC)
• Extensive knowledge in Metric Driven Verification (MDV) and Formal techniques, which are a nice to have.
• Knowledge of Hardware and emulation techniques are a nice to have.
• Knowledge of how to best utilize cloud-based computing solutions, configuration management and associated farms to again provide most efficient solutions.

Education/Experience

• Honors Degree BSc and or MSc in Electronics Computer Science course or equivalent.
• Minimum 20 Years industry experience.

Additional Skills/Preferences:                     

• Ability to manage a technical team of up to 12 people and drive teams towards a set of defined goals and roadmaps.
• Ability to assess product development and work with marketing to define roadmap that satisfies customers’ needs.
• Ability to report to and advise upper management.
• Ability to travel and support internal strategic business development meetings and external customer-based meetings.

Digital Electronics Engineering Intern, 3/6 months, 2024, Edinburgh

For 2024 we are again offering paid internships within our Intellectual Property Group (IPG) at the Cadence Edinburgh office, located on the top floor of our prime 40 Princes Street location, with picturesque views across Edinburgh.

Cadence, a world leader in Electronic Design Automation Tools & IP, is currently looking for talented Electronic & Electrical Engineering or Computing Science undergraduates for internship positions. The ideal candidates will be EE or CS students in their penultimate year, or a recent graduate, who are looking to work alongside our experienced Interface Controller Intellectual Property (IP) development team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in the digital design and verification of leading edge IP, alongside a highly skilled team with over 25 years’ experience in the domain of digital electronics.

Position Requirements

The successful candidates will ideally have had exposure to the following ASIC Chip Design & Verification techniques:

• Verilog RTL Design
• Testbench Development
• Assertion Based Verification
• Object-Orientated Programming with Embedded or Digital Design experience

Experience with Unix, EDA tools and scripting languages such as Python or Perl would be a welcome addition. The internship positions are for 3 or 6 months.
