Engineering Manager

Monday to Friday- Days 37.5 hours per week.

My client, a nationally recognised energy from waste facility is looking for an engineering / maintenance manager to join their team on a full time, permanent basis. The business continues to grow and the upward trend is set to continue with the industry projected for huge growth in the future.

Working as part of the site leadership team, we are looking for candidates that can meet the following requirements:

• Experience in practical implementation of a corporate management system with a flexible approach to ensure that critical work is achieved in a timely and accurate manner.
• Extensive engineering experience of the process industry or power industry, including the management of PSSR legislation.
• Experience working with Maintenance Management systems.
• Strong leadership skills to lead and develop a new team in a start-up scenario with a no compromise approach to health, safety and environmental compliance, preferably at a senior level within a large department.
• Commercial awareness and budgetary responsibility for maintenance and defect support.
• Experience of contractor management to deliver against KPI's.
• Full UK driving license.

Reporting to the general manager, some of your responsibilities will include:

• Provide strong leadership and guidance to the site engineering team, with a safety first mindset.
• Drive improvement across site to deliver a world class operational facility.
• Planning and coordinating shutdowns
• Managing the CAPEX project lifecycle
• Full responsibility for the engineering and maintenance budgets.

The Role

As a Head of Engineering you will be a member of the Product Engineering Leadership team, you will be responsible for all aspects of architecture, engineering best practice and quality across multiple products.

You will ensure that architecture, best practice and quality are at a high standard and compliment our ability to deliver frequent value to our customers and stakeholders. You will manage a team of technical leads across multiple disciplines. You enjoy and embrace agile ways of working and use your experience to know when it is appropriate to take a pragmatic solution and when to hold firm to more strategic implementations.

It is primarily a strategic technical role, however from time to time it will be necessary to get involved at the coal face, to support your team and wider department. You will be passionate about code craftsmanship and look to set high standards, coach others and put systems & tools in place in order to ensure your standards are met. You will instil the DevOps paradigm in your teams, encouraging that engineers own the work they produce from cradle to grave.

You are comfortable in taking a blank sheet of paper or adapting / extending an existing system, through to a working design and plan of implementation. You understand the metrics and KPIs to track and work towards, setting clear goals and objectives for your teams inline with the wider business vision. You are comfortable, communicating complex technical strategies and solutions at all levels of the business.

Single point of contact for the Head of Product Engineering and the wider business for all queries relating to our products’ strategies.
Essentially a strategic role but you must feel comfortable rolling your sleeves up and getting stuck in should the need arise.
Ensure all functions under your wing have refined and prioritised backlogs to draw work from.
Work with Product and Delivery to ensure our engineering solutions fit hand in glove with our business objectives.
Set clear goals and objectives for your direct reports that can ideally trickle down to the wider functions.
Ensure that the right level of documentation is created and kept up to date regarding architecture, engineering decisions and processes

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Civil Engineering Assessor/IQA within the Work Based Learning department at Cardiff and Vale College. This role will be based across sites.

Responsibilities include:


To be accountable for the assessment and progression of a caseload of learners, to achieve the set operational key performance indicators which include the recruitment of learners monitoring of progression and achieving the qualification to meet the contract requirements.
Ensure compliance with contractual requirements within all areas of the learners’ journey; which includes but not exclusive to health and safety vetting and monitoring, WEST testing, learner sign up and exit paperwork and on programme reviews.
Review current performance and provide accurate forecast on performance across to enable you to proactively manage your caseload and resolve issues.
To have a detailed knowledge of your sector and remain up to date with industry trends and development to ensure currency of occupational competence.
Actively engage with employers whilst on visits to promote work based learning. Follow up leads and enquires in a timely manner.
To comply with internal quality assurance and to ensure your practise meets the awarding organisation’s criteria in all areas and action recommendations made by External Verifiers or associated personnel are fully implemented
