We are currently recruiting for experienced L6 (CIAG) Qualified Careers Advisers to join our Education Development Trust youth careers team from December 2024 to provide careers advice, guidance and support to individuals and groups of young people at school or college.

Role Type:

We have positions to suit all working preferences; full time, part time, zero-hour, term time, onsite, fixed term & permanent contracts.

Please note that some positions are presently only available, subject to contract.

Key duties:

You will produce tailored careers information, advice, and guidance to meet the needs of young people and support the school in achieving the Gatsby benchmarks. These are face to face, term time only vacancies in schools.

You will have:

Level 4 or 6 qualification in careers guidance (CIAG)
Experience of working with young people preferably in a school or college setting
Thorough knowledge of education, employment, training and personal development opportunities that are available for young people/labour market information.
Provide careers advice and guidance in a one-to-one setting or group workshop/assemblies to support students with their career aspirations.
Arrange career talks and a range of activities for students.
Have the ability to engage with and inspire young people with SEND and disadvantaged as well as with their parents/carers.
Support the Schools or College Careers Leader to implement and enhance the schools programme to contribute towards meetings the Gatsby Benchmarks.
Demonstrate professional commitment to Children's rights, equal opportunities and diversity.
Undertake administration duties to ensure that all delivery evidence is complete and compliant in line with contract and quality standards.
Experience of working with vulnerable groups and those with special educations needs and disabilities (SEND).

Oak Tree School in Truro has recently expanded and developed two new buildings and undergone a successful inspection from Ofsted allowing us to offer a wider age range of pupils from 5 – 18 years the opportunity to have the best education possible. Oak Tree School is a specialist SEMH provision positioned near the city of Truro in Cornwall. The school provides full-time specialist co-education for up to 135 pupils and young people aged 5 to 18 who experience social, emotional, mental health, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviours. These pupils and young people often cannot cope, function or achieve within a mainstream environment. The aim is to provide a structured, nurturing approach, with pupils accessing a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum to meet their significant needs.

This opportunity is in Truro which is within commutable distance of Redruth, St Austell and surrounding areas.

All successful applicants will be expected to complete and competently use strategies taught within Crisis Prevention Intervention training which includes the use of physical restraint in order to keep pupils and adults safe.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will connect directly with the brilliant pupils and young people we care for, helping to make sure they get the very best from their education. Each individual has so much potential, and they will rely on you to guide their learning journeys. You will help prepare learning materials and run classroom activities, with plenty of hands-on experience and some supervision too. You will take responsibility for their emotional and physical needs, supporting them to develop as individuals and engage with the world.

Supporting pupils with complex Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs is important and rewarding work, and you will benefit from the tremendous support offered by our hugely experienced teams. As you help our pupils and young people achieve real and significant progress, you will enjoy having a direct, positive impact on their developing lives.

As part of your employment, you are requested to attend/carry out mandatory training days which will support your own growth and knowledge of working with the students at Oak Tree School.

Who we are looking for

We would love to hear from candidates who have their GCSE C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

You will be adaptable and ready to work in a variety of classroom roles, both indoors and outside according to individual need. Taking a responsive and caring approach, you may be running classroom activities, leading outdoor experiences or supervising pupils as they explore further afield.

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist to join our clinical division, working collaboratively to deliver bespoke assessment and intervention plans for our pupils with developmental trauma, autism, ADHD, complex and SEMH needs

About the role

You will implement a holistic, therapeutic approach to helping our pupils in their daily lives, ensuring they are safe, comfortable, and healthy. Refugee Key Worker


Location: Ideally working from South or West Cornwall or have a willingness to travel into these areas

This is a full-time, fixed term role (up to 8 months from start date of contract)

About the role – Assist – One and All is a Cornwall Council Shared Prosperity Funded employability programme covering Cornwall and the Isle’s of Scilly.

The Key Worker will deliver support to refugees across Cornwall both virtually and face to face; delivery venues will include a variety of Community Hubs, Jobcentre Plus offices, libraries etc. Our participant journey is designed to offer tailored support to the individual, the Key Worker will ensure that the participant is supported to achieve progression.

This role offers the opportunity to work innovatively and flexibly to open up opportunities for refugees who have chosen to settle in Cornwall. Using a diagnostic assessment at the start of the journey the Key Worker will be able to identify the actions required to enable the participant to meet their goals. Linking with employers, training providers and other support services to ensure the participants needs are met.
It would be advantageous if the post holder speaks Ukranian, Pasto, Dari or other suitable languages.

The farm operates from 6am to 6pm, 7 days per week and will require flexibility during these times, the contracted hours will be 30-40 per week.

The main duties will include but are not limited to:

Tractor work and other farm machinery

Dairy tasks

General yard duties

Monitoring livestock

Monitoring supplies stock e.g. livestock feed etc

Evaluating farm information

Working with the internal and external team

It would be an advantage to hold Maths and English qualifications at grade 4 or above or Functional Skills Level 2 but this is not essential. If Maths and English is required, we would need the successful candidate to complete functional skills during the apprenticeship.
