Due to the partnership between Hays and Birmingham City Council, we are looking for a number of customer service advisors to join the Housing Repairs team within the council.Being the largest leading local authority in the whole of Europe, Birmingham City Council are renowned for their expertise in public services and endless opportunities. Birmingham City Council provides the city's residents with a number of services to ensure stability within citizens' daily lives.


Your new role
Housing Repairs BCC is the largest local authority in Europe and have a responsibility to maintain their properties and report emergency or non-emergency repairs in line with the agreements between the council and contractors. Housing repairs also assist and provide information to the Rents department in order for tenants to keep up with their rental payments and other responsibilities such as council tax so that the council can support them. Working hours are Monday to Friday 8am - 8pm on a shift rotation basis, with a 15-minute break and a 30-minute lunch break - both unpaid. This is a full-time position. Please see below the possible shift patterns:

8am - 4pm

9am - 5pm

10am - 6pm

11am - 7pm

12pm - 8pm.

There will be 8 week training period based fully in office with an experienced trainer - you can not have any annual leave or appointments booked within this training period. All candidates will be assessed during training and will also be required to complete legal paperwork in order to access data protected systems. Once you have completed training and have been signed off by the academy training, you will be able to work from home. Candidates are required to have a good WiFi signal with a suitable workstation to enable working from home the foreseeable future. Training and support will continue to be available on an ongoing basis.

What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate should have strong customer service skills and have confidence working on their own. Candidates from a call centre/contact centre or telesales environment will benefit from the nature of this role as you will be familiar with working in a fast-paced environment. Staff will be required to cover the full contractual period with NO annual leave booked for the first 8 weeks due to the training period. With practical hands-on experience of basic mechanical maintenance and a desire to learn new skills to improve and develop within the role our successful candidate will also demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

• A mechanical / electrical / hydraulic background and basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems is desirable
• A full clean UK driving Licence is an essential requirement for this role
• Strong time management skills to effectively meet deadlines

Your new role
As a Customer Service Advisor you will act as the first point of contact for customers, you will speak with customers via a variety of methods, inbound and outbound calls and emails. This role is based in our Fort William workshop – you will be required to repair and service equipment which is deployed by our customers in support of their operations. In time, you will be able to provide remote support to customers to diagnose faults and recommend on-site remedial actions. Whilst you will be workshop based initially, there will be the opportunity to progress and develop into a field service engineer role.

Experience of working in a workshop environment, servicing and repair of electrical/electronic devices will be of benefit. If you possess some understanding of IT networking and troubleshooting, this would also be advantageous. However, this is not essential as full training will be given.

Field Service Engineer (£35k to £40k per annum)

Are you an experienced engineer/technician within the Aquaculture industry? This role will primarily require travel to customer locations to service, maintain, install and commission our systems on customer sites. In addition to this, you will be required to repair and service ScaleAQ equipment at our workshop in Fort William.

A high level and understanding of mechanical/electrical disciplines is essential along with good IT skills.
