The Lead MSA is assigned to a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model within the Marion VA Health Care System. The Lead MSA monitors work assignments, provides input on performance, resolves daily workplace issues and maintains efficient workflow. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: assuring coverage of all areas of responsibility; conducting ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work and that staff are in compliance with applicable policies and procedures i.e., Scheduling Directive, Patient Information Collection Management (PICM), Insurance Capture, Pre-Registration, Open Encounter management, etc.; ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments by conducting and documenting routine scheduling audits; providing guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures; distributing and balancing workload; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees; ensuring all training requirements are met; organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas; and acting as liaison between MSAs and staff in order to resolve day to day conflicts.

Other assignments include, but are not limited to:

• Provide training, mentoring and coaching to other frontline MSAs
• Assist with cancelling, rescheduling and notifying patients as requested
• Ensure coverage for PACT MSAs when on scheduled or unscheduled leave
• Maintain and assist with clinic access contingency plans by adjusting appointment times, location or dates

  • Using all available tools, such as registries, to enable effective and efficient identification and intervention of individual Veterans and cohorts;
  • Functioning at the full extent of the LPN's relevant clinical privileges, credentials, scopes of practice, elements of practice, certification, and other VHA or local facility documentation of competency;
  • Participating in team performance improvements and sustainment activities to optimize team efficiency care delivery with Veterans;
  • Implementing primary care operations management processes, as appropriate;
  • Managing communications and facilitating safe transitions of Veterans between the PACT's site of care and other health care settings, using informal and formal communication methods, as appropriate;

  • Serve ,within their of scope of practice, as a tele presenter for VVC or Telemedicine in task such as establishing and maintaining video connection, making introductions between patients and providers and following the instructions of the clinician to facilitate an effective clinical encounter;
  • Taking measures to ensure patient care is delivered safely by following appropriate procedures for cleaning of clinical equipment and care of environment by following all safety guidelines, protocols, and procedures:
  • Completing standardized clinical questionnaires and templates within scope of training and applicable guidelines;
  • Arranging and completing test video calls with veterans in preparation of video calls;
  • Ensuring information and resources are maintained for local and remote telehealth providers so they can effectively execute contingency and emergency plans.
