(1) Planning: Plans the overall allocation of personnel, funding and equipment resources to the organizational segments supervised to accomplish work operations which, because of their scope, volume, complexity, operational tempo, and total force integration must be planned on an annual or longer basis. Functions as an integral member of unit's planning process, serving as the responsible technical resource for a maintenance division. Has national level impact, attending future systems road map planning conferences such as Product Improvement Working Group (PIWG), System Supportability Review (SSR) and Systems Safety Group (SSG) meetings as an Air National Guard subject matter expert.

(2) Work Direction: Explains work requirements to subordinate levels of supervision, sets deadlines and sequence of operations. Coordinates and directs the work of units supervised. Balances work load for subordinate work groups. Analyzes production, cost and personnel utilization records and makes adjustment in operations to correct problems. Develops quality and quantity standards. Spot checks work operations to assure production and quality standards are met. Encourages employees to achieve goals.

(3) Administration: Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinate supervisors and reviews personnel actions prepared by them. Makes formal appraisal of supervisors' work performance and reviews employee appraisals submitted by them. Determines long-range training needs for all levels of subordinates, submits funding and budget requests with justification for approval, and arranges for the accomplishment of the training. As a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC, WG-5803-8/10, duties include:

1. Repairs, adjust, overhauls, performs major repairs, and maintenance on military and commercial designed heavy mobile equipment and special purpose vehicles. Inspects repairs, overhauls and tests major systems including gasoline, diesel, electric powered hybrid, multi-fuel, turbine, and other types of internal combustion engines, which may be turbo-charged or blower assisted, automatic or manual transmissions, including those with power take offs, cross-drive transmissions, hydraulic, electric, pneumatic systems and controls, fluid pumping systems, turrets, winches and four-wheel steering systems. Develop or improvise methods, alter parts, and make repairs in the absence of technical guidelines. Modify parts to fit or improvises modifications to equipment to correct recurring malfunctions. Makes design modifications to meet special requirements, make adjustment or performs tests. Removes, disassembles overhauls, modifies, adjusts, and repairs, engines, transmissions, or sub-assemblies in accordance with the proper procedures and specifications. 2. Performs body repair and corrosion control, refinishes and repaints surfaces as required. Repairs and/or replaces body parts, locks, glass, etc. and determines if additional repairs are required. Repairs may be accomplished by using welding equipment, power tools, hand tools and other specialized equipment. Cleans, tests, and repairs radiators/oil coolers and associated parts. Prepares, maintains and submits applicable maintenance work orders for man-hour and data collection accounting, to include completing forms to reflect work performed or delayed and parts and maintenance required. Assists in establishing and maintaining adequate shop stock, special levels parts, and appropriate shop support equipment and tools. Inspect, maintains, and operates all appropriate shop equipment. Researches and assists in requisitioning materials, parts and equipment necessary to perform the vehicle maintenance/management mission. Assists in review and updating maintenance technical orders, shop operating instructions, commercial publications, MAJCOM and local publications, as well as other pertinent directives. Provides expert support to the Customer Service Center to various unit members.

4. Participates as OJT Instructor in the vehicle maintenance area. Conducts instructional classes on methods and procedures of operation and maintenance concerning all aspects of vehicle repairs and assigned shop maintenance support equipment. Evaluates effectiveness of instruction, documents and maintains individual /section training and qualification records.

5. Assists in conducting the local occupational safety and health training program, to include compliance with directives and procedures for proper disposal of hazardous waste products within the functional area. Working alongside T1 Semi Skilled Operatives, you will be undertaking the following overhaul & repair tasks of the allocated wheelsets & bogies whilst adhering to the requisite processes & procedures:
* Carry out the initial inspection of wheelsets
* Axle bearing removal taking care to ensure no damage to the axle or components occurs and prepare the bearings for dispatch to the relevant external companies
* Paint removal on the axle
* Wheel pan removal taking the relevant precautions to ensure no damage to components is caused
* Painting activities (both repairs and spray painting)
* Surface defect removal
* Oil drain and fill on wheelset gearbox and couplings and any associated parts
* Initial Bogie inspection reporting any findings through the relevant maintenance portal and supervisor
* Wheelset removal taking care not to damage the frame or wheelsets
* Frame disassembly and component removal
* Carry out Component repair following
* Assist with cleaning of rolling stock when required
