This is a great job opportunity for a Community Housing Assistant to join Home Groups awesome housing team in South Tyneside. As our Community Housing Assistant (CHA) you’re the face to face customer support to our communities. If you like variety, meeting and supporting customers, and want to develop a career in housing, then this is the perfect job for you!
Typical day as our Community Housing Assistant
- Through visibility, engagement with customers and proactivity on our estates, you’ll really get to get to know our communities.
- You’ll support our housing managers to look after their patches and through this, help us to improve our local neighbourhoods.
- You’ll support with tasks such as managing our voids processes which includes liaising with local authorities, estate inspections, engaging and meeting with contractors on site.
- You’ll carry out and record the routine safety and compliance checks in our buildings and communities.
- You’ll also manage the admin updating records, ordering, and arranging payment for works to be done.

You bring
- A “can do” positive attitude, you’re proactive and well organised, able to work on your initiative.
- A real passion for delivering excellent customer service and a genuine desire to help your customers.
- Confidence working collaboratively with colleagues in other parts of the business and external partners
- An understanding of housing management, housing law and universal credit would be ideal, but they’re not deal breakers!
- The ability to use technology to navigate our systems and update customer records
- An appreciation that this is a role where you’ll spend much of your time lone working in our local estates.

Job details
- This is a hybrid role and in an average week, you’ll spend 2 days working from our communities in South Tyneside.
- Although you’ll spend time in our neighbourhoods, we do get together regularly, we spend 1 day in the office at One Strawberry Lane and the other days working a mix from home and out in our communities.
- There may be some flexibility to adapt your working hours, do let us know about this when you meet us at the interview
- We mainly work Monday to Friday and work occasional evenings to meet with customers. The great news is that you’ll be able to shape your own diary.
- To get from A to B, you’ll need a vehicle insured for business purposes. The great news is that we’ll pay your mileage!
- You’ll need a Standard DBS check done and we pay for that.
