About our Teams

HVDC Centre: We are looking for Electrical Power Engineering students to support the power system studies to de-risk the deployment of High Voltage Direct Current transmission technologies to deliver our net-zero targets. Over the next decade, the electricity transmission network that we operate will be dramatically reshaped by HVDC to integrate massive offshore wind power to achieve net-zero. Our team of power system experts are key to enabling and de-risking this journey. We are seeking students studying electrical power engineering. This team are based in Cumbernauld.

Project Engineering: A core technical department within SSEN Transmission. Our summer placement programme will provide you with experience of working at the centre of the transition to Net Zero. You will receive training to work on multimillion pound infrastructure projects covering innovations that will allow us to meet these technological challenges. We are looking for students studying electrical, mechanical or civil engineering. This team are based in Inverness, Perth or Glasgow.

HVDC Engineering: With new renewable energy projects in the North of Scotland needing to be connected to the National Grid and the electricity transported large distances from areas of Generation to areas of Demand, HVDC is the most efficient way to do this. Our HVDC Engineering team is central to these projects and we are at the cutting edge of new HVDC Voltage Source Converter technology, having recently commissioned the Shetland HVDC Link, which completed the Caithness-Moray-Shetland HVDC project, the first Multi-terminal HVDC VSC scheme in the world outside of China. With significant projects to work on in the North of Scotland, including work on our Eastern Green Link projects (planned HVDC links from the East coast of Scotland to Northeast England) as well as a number of embedded links within SSEN Transmissions own Network in the North of Scotland, we are aiming to connect up to 10GW of renewable energy in the North of Scotland to the National Grid. This team are based in Inverness, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Perth.

Marine Engineering: A relatively new function within SSEN Transmission, established just over 2 years ago, to be ready, and indeed be a major part of the "Net Zero" race in the UK. We have an increasing portfolio of substantial Marine Installation projects for at least the next 10 years, including the installation of critical national infrastructure and its on-going protection. The team is building the capacity for "best in class" offshore cable installation projects, putting a team together to manage all aspects of marine delivery, Safety, Logistics, Vessel Assurance, and Survey support throughout the lifetime of the marine infrastructures lifespan. We are looking for students studying geosciences, construction management or logistics management. This team are based in Aberdeen or Glasgow.

The post will be based at the company’s offices in Westhill, Aberdeenshire. As a CCUS Engineer, your responsibility will be to develop novel frameworks and models for assessing the risk of corrosion and CO2 leakage during injection and storage of CO2 in abandoned legacy wells. A multi-physics modelling approach will be employed, that accounts for geology, geochemistry, geomechanics and fluid flow, validated with experimental laboratory investigations. To further inform this multi-physics approach, the candidate will employ ab initio quantum chemistry and molecular dynamics methods using software on a dedicated cluster or supercomputer.

Offshore Helicopter Services UK Ltd (OHS) supports the North Sea Oil & Gas sector with flight transfers and an Offshore Search & Rescue cover. This Modern Apprenticeship will take the form of both classroom and Aircraft Maintenance Environment Training (AMET) practical elements, divided between, Perth College, Air Service Training and OHS’s main base, in Aberdeen. This will be a structured 4-year programme completing Modules at B1.3 Level, which will require a high degree of study and dedication. EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Materials Engineering Intern in our Hughes Network Systems division. The position will be located at our manufacturing/operations facility in Germantown, MD.

Responsibilities:

• Organize files for storing into electronic drop boxes (AS9102/CofC work).
• Creating test summaries for sign-off and submittal to customers.
• Support vendor management activities and incoming commodity inspections.
• Shadow Materials Engineers to support everyday activities including root cause and corrective action activities.

Basic Requirements:

• Currently pursuing a degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.  
• 3.0 GPA or above
• 60 credit hours or more by start of internship, June 2024

Preferred Qualifications:

• Understanding of electronic & mechanical components.
• Proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
• Experience with precision measurement equipment (micrometer, calipers, gauges, DMM’s)
• Aptitude to work closely with SMT assembly line and supporting failure resolutions.    
• Experience using 3rd party software packages (Minitab, GIDEP, Silicon Expert & ERP/SAP) is a plus.
• Familiarity with IS09001/AS9100 quality principles is a plus.

To provide effective leadership of the Teledyne Marine Aberdeen engineering team and development projects.  Coordinating and taking the lead for projects and non-project team activities as well as other management tasks as allocated to you.

Leidos is presently seeking a Software Engineering Manager in support of the Defense Information Systems Agency GSMO-II Program. This role will be responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of Innovations and Special Projects from kickoff through sustainment, including project management, technical leadership, architecture, and process management. The Software Engineering Manager will lead a matrixed and virtual team of engineers to balance and maintain technical, cost, and schedule deliverables. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who will work independently to anticipate and address challenges in a fast-paced, remote-first environment to meet project objectives.

While this role is primarily remote one must live within commuting distance to Scott AFB, IL or Ft. Meade, MD for on-site support as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, technical and project management leadership tasks including:

• Project leadership of a team of Software Engineers, Test Engineers, Network Engineers, and System Administrators.

• Create and maintain the DevOps platform strategic roadmap, for continual process improvement.

• Lead the execution of multiple, concurrent Agile software development projects to meet cost and schedule objectives.

• Proactively and independently identify, report, monitor, and mitigate technical risks.

• Develop project management plans for establishing technical, schedule and cost baselines.

Required Qualifications

• Must hold an active DoD Secret Clearance.

• Ability to obtain Security+ certification or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT II certification within 14 days of start date.

• Prior Software Engineering Team Lead experience (managing day-to-day operations of a Software Engineering team), including experience leading an Agile software development team.

• Full software lifecycle experience (design, development, test, deployment), including deployment to a production environment.

• Previous software configuration management experience, including release planning, managing software baselines, merging branches, and producing software builds.

• Strong communication skills that enable proactive and effective collaboration with a virtual team, including the ability to clearly articulate status and present to both customers and program leadership.

• Hands-on full-SDLC Agile Software Development experience, including full software lifecycle automation experience (design, development, test, deployment), including deployment to a production environment.

• Experience designing, building, and deploying DevOps pipelines with Bitbucket, Git, Jenkins, Artifactory and Ansible (or equivalent tools).

• Experience configuring, developing, and deploying on the Elastic Stack (ELK) and Kafka platforms.

• Experience leading a software development project in a DoD environment, including ensuring compliance with STIGs and RMF controls.

• Experience developing software on a Linux platform (RHEL 8), including experience working in a UNIX command line environment.

• Experience on software integration projects that include Java programing, including SOAP and REST web services development.

• Experience with distributed version control software, such as Git, and experience with development workflows in Bitbucket or an equivalent tool

• Experience designing and building automated software testing pipelines using Ansible, Selenium, JMeter, Junit and/or other applicable tools.

• Software requirements analysis and design documentation experience, including the creation of functional, technical, and architectural design artifacts as well as test cases and installation, deployment, and configuration documentation.

• Experience leading code, document, and other artifact reviews

• Active 8570 IAT II Certification

• Formal Agile methodology certification (e.g., SCRUM).
