OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT

The new Development Review Division of the Public Works Department is seeking Real Property Specialist Senior. The Real Property Specialist Senior is responsible for reviewing subdivision plats, site plans, legal descriptions for easements or license agreements and makes recommendations for revisions or approval.

This new Development Review Division has been created to consolidate Public Works development review including site plans, civil plans, traffic engineering and Real Property reviews with a focus on customer service and achieving or
exceeding performance metrics.

The city’s overall development process, spanning several city departments, is managed by the Office of Development Assistance (ODA), a division of the City Manager’s Office. ODA’s project managers are the liaisons between our development partners including initial department introduction meetings, development applications and planning approval, civil construction document review and approval and building construction document review and approval and permitting. Departments that are integral to the development review process include ODA, Planning and Development Services, Aurora Water, Parks Recreation and Open Space and both the Public Works Engineering Services Division and Building Division.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reviews legal descriptions associated with subdivision plats and annexation maps, and makes recommendations for revision or approval

• Process and review subdivision plats and annexation maps for recordation

Under the direction of the Manager of Risk Operations and Property and Casualty Claims Adjuster, handle and administer general liability, automobile liability and commercial property claims, including all aspects of claims investigation, adjustment, and subrogation functions for the Risk Management Division.

• Sets up new claim files in the Risk Management Information System (RMIS)

• Plans and conducts investigations, including site visits, on claims to determine liability and damages

• Assesses insurance coverage and applicability of Colorado Governmental Immunity Act on assigned claims

• Confers with Adjuster, management & legal counsel on potentially volatile claims

• Establishes claim reserves and adjusts/updates as necessary

• Determines subrogation and restitution recovery potential from 3rd parties

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, risk management or a related field. ARM or AIC designations preferred.

Experience:

• A minimum 3 years’ experience in claims, including experience with general liability and commercial property claims.
