- Serve as a technical expert and coordinator in providing intellectual leadership and focus on research to initiate dialogue; generate policy recommendations, interventions, and station mechanisms.
- Provide expert technical leadership and program advice in the development and implementation of national and station research direction.
- Coordinate with station Executive and Leadership Teams to develop programs to share the Station’s science with stakeholders and ensure effective science delivery.
- Develop and participate in short- and long-range planning and priorities for new and innovative projects including the development of budget needs and recommendations for allocation of funds.
- Perform long-range planning and management of new substantive agency research and development programs where precedents are scarce or nonexistent.
- Monitor and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of major research projects through periodic review visits.
- Oversee the release of research results in the form of technical and non-technical publications, talks, reports, and field demonstrations.
- Represent the Director in contacts with key Regional and local representatives of other Federal agencies, State agencies, industrial organizations,
universities, and trade and conservation groups.
- Plan and direct the overall work through subordinate supervisors, team leaders, or comparable positions.
- Supervises 25% or more of the time.
