The Operating Room RN applies the nursing process (assessments, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to systems or processes at the unit/teamwork group level to improve care.
The Operating Room RN will be responsible for acquiring knowledge and skills to maintain expertise in your area of practice and participate in educational activities to improve clinical knowledge and enhance role performance.
RN duties will require you to intervene when untoward or unsafe changes occur the surgical suite. Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Demonstrates grade-appropriate and consistent critical thinking skills consistent with a fast-paced High Reliability and Just Culture environment
Performs pre- and post-procedure nursing assessments, patient education and to include side effects of medications and what to expect.
Recognizes subtle abnormal signs and symptoms and/or changes in patient's condition and respond appropriately in providing nursing interventions in the management of surgical and medical complications and initiate nursing actions to prevent and/or intervene in life threatening emergencies.
Ensure accurate and timely OR count.
Provides safe methods of patient transfer/transport by assessment of patient needs, selection of appropriate methods and personnel and the provision for the emotional needs of the patient/family during transport.
Provides psychosocial support, while identifying the patient and ensuring that the patient and planned surgical intervention and operative site correspond.
Responsible for reducing the potential for patient infection by the application of principles of aseptic techniques and the direction and supervision of the health care team in the operating room.
Accomplishes ongoing patient, situational and environmental assessments, prioritizes, procures and coordinates supplies and equipment.
The incumbent assesses, prioritizes and intervenes in the peri-operative arena to prevent life threatening situations, and provides life support activities in an emergency by executing appropriate actions and/or providing direction/assistance to healthcare team members.
Provides safe methods of patient transfer and transport by assessment of patient needs, selection of appropriate methods and personnel and the provision for the emotional needs of the patient and family during transport.
Required to cross-cover and scrub for OR cases.Is flexible and adaptable to the work environment are necessary to perform the required duties.
You may be required to rotate to other units/duties as needed to include Charge Nurse, Preceptor, etc.
May be required work weekends.
