About the Role

As a Site Construction Manager at SSEN Transmission, you will spearhead the construction of a vital substation at Finstown or Dounreay as part of our broader initiative to connect Orkney to the UK grid for the first time. You'll be crucial in managing this 220/132KV Substation from the ground up, thereby ensuring strict adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards.

The key duties & responsibilities will include:

- Represent the SSEN Transmission business on-site and be the key site-based point of contact, this will also include interfacing with contractors, and key stakeholders at site.

- Ensure all site operations align with statutory, legal, and company's Health and Safety regulations, alongside Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.

- Collaborate closely with the appointed contractor(s) and the Operations team to ensure the works are delivered to the project programme, in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

- Monitor compliance with planning consents and SHE legislation, maintain routine reporting and oversight of site performance against set KPIs.

- Develop effective relationships with contractors, suppliers and the community, act as a site leader championing a positive safety culture.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Notable experience in on-site management or supervision working on the construction, maintenance, and commissioning of high voltage substation equipment.

- In-depth understanding of health, safety, and CDM 2015 Regulations, ideally within a high voltage construction setup.

- Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple contractors/subcontractors to adhere to project timelines and budgets effectively.

- Previous experience in quality monitoring through inspection and test plans.

- Strong communication skills with the ability to challenge others along with experience in resolving conflicts and planning site activities.

What do I need?

- A strong project management, engineering or construction background and understanding of applicable health and safety regulations including CDM regulations.

- Excellent communication and leadership skills with a proven track record in the successful delivery of large projects.

- Contractual management experience (NEC3 experience is preferable), with the ability to forecast and control costs as well as develop and manage integrated project programmes.

- Due to the location of our projects, there is a need to have a driving licence and, for delivery focussed roles, a willingness to travel to site and be on site for 2-3 days a week during construction.

- Experience managing large electricity transmission projects would be great but, experience in managing major projects from other industries, coupled with the desire and ability to learn quickly is equally valid.

- As this role requires travel to operational sites, a full UK driving license is desirable or willingness to obtain one upon application is acceptable and assistance can be provided.

- Knowledge of current business operations, maintenance activities, electrical systems and their geography would be beneficial but not essential as informative training will be provided.

About the Role

Base Location: Inverness, Perth or Aberdeen

Salary: £52,285 - £60,730 + car / car allowance + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

As a Contract Manager as part of the Framework team, you will lead the implementation of the commercial and contractual support service within the regions on the following framework contracts: Overhead Line, Primary Substation Electrical Installation & Civil Works, Cabling up to 33KV, Cable Plough, Automation, Rising Lateral & Mains, Jointing and any other approved frameworks that are required by the business.

Your duties will include:

- Working with key stakeholders to ensure frameworks are embedded within the business ensuring a rigorous control environment is in place to effectively manage commercial risk, compliance and competence while creating value across the portfolio of contracts.

- Driving ongoing improvements with our framework partners through dialogue / senior management quarterly reviews on safety, performance, quality and cost plays a major role in the success of this position.

- Additional duties will be to lead and provide commercial support to a small team of Quantity Surveyors.

What do I need?

To ensure you get the most from your role, and our customers receive the highest standard of service, we ask that you have the following to join us:

- Relevant qualifications in construction / contract management or vast experience in a similar role is essential.

- Ability to produce commercial and contractual management reports along with carrying out meaningful and influential presentations.

- Demonstrable experience of working within a commercial / contractual environment.

- A high regard for safety, embedding yourself in our safety culture and adhering to guidelines in everything you do is a key priority.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable liaising with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.

A full UK driving licence is required as your role will involve a degree of travel between regional offices and sites.

Our client is a contractor who has been operating for over 70 years across the UK working across a number of Joint Ventures, Public-Private Partnerships and alternative forms of contract on well-known and celebrated projects;
Well-respected and successful, our client has secured a substantial contract and are looking for talented and ambitious individuals to join their team;

What you'll be doing:

• The successful Project Manager will initially be working on a civil engineering / energy project near Inverness;
• Manage the daily operations on site and ensure project timescales are met within a safe and accurate fashion,
• Reporting weekly to the Operations Manager on key aspects of progress issues and concerns,
• Contribute and help to ensure that success throughout all projects is achieved by delivering the programme on time,
• Support Site Agents on site,
• Any other project management duties as required.

What you'll need to be successful:

• Ideally, the candidate will be degree-educated within civil engineering;
• At least 2 years' experience as a Project Manager;
• Previous civil engineering, NEC and Microsoft Project experience is essential;
• Substation / battery storage / cabling experience is highly desirable;
• Valid CSCS, SMSTS, is essential;
• Flexibility on location is essential.
