The post-holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team, embedded within the Brent CAMHS Learning Disability Pathway that delivers a high quality, evidence based and effective psychological care to individuals being treated under the team pathway. The role includes the provision of specialist psychological assessment, therapy, advice and consultation on children and young people psychological care. The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures. The post-holder will utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service providing high level clinical leadership across the service, working closely with the team, families and multi-agency professionals to improve emotional and holistic well-being delivering highly innovative and adaptive evidence based psychological interventions. The post-holder will develop opportunities to offer consultation to non-psychologist colleagues, professionals and carers within the young people’s network, working autonomously within professional guidelines . Working alongside services involved in the children and young people to coproduce creative activities and person centre care plan. Embracing new ways of working will be key to respond to the needs and aspirations of children and young people it serves.

The responsibilities of this role are diverse and there are multiple levels to the work including:
• Direct work with children, young people with learning disabilities and autism and their families/cares
• Liaison and consultation work with a wide range of stakeholders, including special education school, 0-25 children with disabilities team, SENCO, SENDAS, and commissioners
• Teaching and training
• Providing clinical supervision
• Working strategically with senior leads within the team and Trust to improve the quality of treatment and intervention given to the children and young people with learning disabilities and autism, and their families and carers

1. To act as care coordinator for a caseload of children and young people with learning disability and autism and significant mental health needs.
2. To provide an efficient, effective, comprehensive and highly specialist assessment and treatment for children and adolescents with severe/profound learning disabilities and mental health problems, their carers/parents and families.
3. To formulate and implement plans for formal clinical treatment and management of behaviours difficulties based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of these problems employing methods based upon evidence of proven efficacy within modality and with reference to appropriate clinical guidelines and care pathways (e.g. NICE, CEG).
4. In liaison with colleagues and in response to an identified need, to provide specialist systemic psychological and clinical autonomy drawing on a range of models and wherever possible brief intervention. To practice in a way which is inclusive and considerate of the needs of each individual in the system including family members and their varying network.
5. Regularly monitor and evaluate therapeutic interventions and progress using routine outcome measures and include family members as appropriate.
6. To evaluate and make decisions about the treatment options considering both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical, environmental and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
