To provide clinical leadership to ensure when appropriate the service will work effectively alongside other services, to manage risk and work with young people who use substances with the most complex and acute needs. Develop and maintain communication with a wide range of people/ services/ agencies about complex matters with the purpose of sharing, developing or helping resolving complex issues for the benefit of service users, their families and the service. To represent the organisation in a range of settings, presenting, facilitating or explaining as appropriate and dealing with any questions or difficulties as they arise. To personally build and lead others to build, hope inspiring relationships with service users, which acknowledge the personal journey of each person, and focus on strengths and aspirations to allow the creation of meaningful personal recovery plans. To support the Specialist Clinical Lead in developing systems and processes for the effective management and monitoring of the team caseload, on a day to day basis, ensuring that time is prioritised effectively, and service users and carers receive the appropriate level of service. To lead and promote a whole team approach with the service to ensure a shared ownership of the team caseload. To be responsible for regularly monitoring and evaluating treatment programmes for service users, making appropriate clinical/practice decision in regard to ongoing needs, and offering supervision to others. To provide a leadership role within the team, in the absence of the Speciality Clinical Lead, providing cover for the manager and colleagues as required. To work with the Speciality Clinical Lead to ensure the continuing improvements to the service in line with organisational goals. To maintain health records, ensuring electronic records are kept up to date in accordance with professional and organisational standards. Maintain clear, precise and timely documentation in line with trust guidelines To participate in, and deliver as required, management, caseload and clinical supervision in accordance with trust policies. Promote monitor and maintain best practice in health, safety and security of self and others, undertaking assessments and taking appropriate action where required. Work with the Speciality Clinical Lead to develop a culture that promotes equality and values diversity. Lead practices which enable effective team working. Develop and maintain good partnership working with other services throughout all treatment episodes, including regular liaison with Locality CAMHS teams, CYPS, education and non statutory services working with young people.

Senior Forensic Psychologist
Full Time, 40 hours – Permanent

This isn't a typical prison psychology role. You'll be a leader, a strategist, and a catalyst for change. You'll work directly with prisoners facing complex challenges, including mental illness, personality disorders, cognitive deficits, self-harming behaviours and significant offending histories. Managing a team of forensic psychologists and forensic psychologists-in-training, you’ll use your expertise to assess risks, guide rehabilitation programmes, and empower prisoners for a positive future.
As part of our team, you’ll:


- Undertake forensic risk assessments of prisoners that contribute to the safer custody of residents
- Act as a professional witness in parole board hearings, multi-agency meetings, and other formal settings
- Lead and contribute to the development and delivery of offending behaviour programmes
- Deliver training on topics such as personality disorder, psychopathy or managing difficult behaviour
- Ensure all work adheres to our code of conduct and British Psychological Society (BPS) guidelines
- As an active stakeholder in the Rehabilitative Culture strategy of the prison, you’ll stay up-to-date on knowledge and research in the Forensic Psychology space, particularly in relation to the rehabilitation of offenders



HMP Ashfield is a category B male prison with an operational capacity is for 412 prisoners. This is a role that offers plenty of variety and contributes enormously to the important work of stabilising and reintegrating those prisoners safely and successfully back into society.

What you’ll need to do the role:


- Chartered status with the British Psychological Society
- Be registered as a Forensic Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Be on the Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAAPS) with the BPS
- Strong awareness and knowledge of the Offender Personality Disorder pathway, with the experience and ability to make good clinical formulations of offenders with complex needs
- Experience completing parole reports and carrying out assessments such as WAIS IV, HCR-20, PCL-R, IPDE and SARA
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary way and bring a collaborative approach to your work with your team and with the those in our care
- Desirable: Post-qualification experience working in secure settings
