Vertex is seeking a detail-oriented Package Engineering Senior Specialist with technical expertise in pharmaceutical packaging, process development and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will provide technical support in packaging operations, working with cross functional teams in a fast-paced environment.  Candidate will need to ensure resolution of technical issues with Contract Manufacturers and Distribution Centers.  They will support projects with on-time review and implementation of documentation, and change controls. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides technical support on Packaging processes to Package Engineering and cross functional teams

• Advanced knowledge of cGMP’s and associated CMC regulatory considerations in a pharmaceutical environment
• Fundamental understanding and application of validation processes (IQ/OQ/PQ/PV)

Vertex has established a research site in Boston Seaport where research, development, and clinical manufacturing for cell and genetic therapies will be primarily based. Cell and genetic therapies represent two rapidly emerging therapeutic modalities with the potential to treat—and even cure—several of the diseases Vertex is focused on, including sickle cell disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and type 1 diabetes. Vertex is seeking a talented individual to join our Process Development group. The primary focus of this talented individual is to lead part of the process development/engineering scale-up activities for drug substance processes for one of our key cell and gene therapy assets. The position is responsible for internal process development work, translating small scale experiments, which generate fundamental process understanding, into bioreactor systems which can be scaled up according to program requirements. Month-end Close

Streamline operations in the accounting office to achieve operational efficiencies.

Responsible for the coordination and timely completion of the monthly close including reconciliations for all appropriate accounts, i.e., cash, investments, bond funds, accounts receivable, etc.

Process monthly journal entries, including:

• BMC/BU miscellaneous accruals, and inter-company transfers to and from the institutions
• Payable and receivable accruals that are in transit between BMC/BU and the department
• Ensure all appropriate adjustments and/or reclasses are made on behalf of department administrators
• Reconciliation of fixed assets and depreciation

Responsible for providing interim draft financials (P&L, B/S, cash flow) for review in preparation for the final submittal for consolidation.

Provide timely and accurate monthly financial statements and related analysis as directed by Department of Medicine financial management.

Cash Log

Reconcile the cash inflow and outflow according to patient and non-patient payments based on the Bank of America and Citizens bank statements. Book all the Cash Log related entries, such as wire transfers and miscellaneous deposits.

Treasury

Initiate domestic and international monthly wire transfers.

BRM (CHC billing)

Review any new and existing CHC contracts on a monthly basis and prepare monthly billing based on the hours submitted by providers and locations. Process BRM accruals as needed. Work with the Directors and clinics to maintain up to date contracts. Email invoices.

Approve expenses

Approve travel expenses and AP invoices in BU Ariba and Concur. Review and submit invoices to BMC AP department. Work very closely with the BMC AP department to resolve any questions/issues that might arise.

Paychex

Collect /email monthly Paychex requests and assist with setting up new providers.

Budgeting

Assist with establishing budgets for all clinical and research sections within Department of Medicine.  Help in creating budget workbooks and templates using current year information as a basis point.

Review revenue and expense budgets for reasonableness compared to current fiscal performance.

Other Duties

Work closely with IT on any changes or upgrades to the general Ledger, as well as necessary system maintenance.

Develops and implements internal and external Accounting policies, procedures and controls under direction and approval of the Associate Director.

Responsible for preparing and providing all necessary analyses for the year-end Audit, as well as the timely completion of the Audit.

Perform other duties as needed.

• Leverage data analytics during planning and execution to optimize coverage and effectiveness.

• Assessing the impact/risk associated with any areas of concern identified through the audit process, proposing recommendations to address these risks, and working with management to develop appropriate corrective actions. 

• Communicating and presenting effectively to business management to ensure clarity regarding audit results and that appropriate action plans are being implemented.

• Developing working relationships with various levels of management, acting as a problem-solving resource, while continuously sharing best practices and areas for improvement.

• Proactively identify opportunities where Internal Audit or local operations under review can add value to the Company.

• Learning and applying the internal audit methodology consistently to all engagements.

• Ensuring working papers and other deliverables are complete, accurate, presented in a clear and logical manner leading to final conclusions and exceptions.

• Providing support, mentoring, and feedback to audit team members throughout the audit. Provide assistance with onboarding and ongoing support to new team members.

• As needed, assist with special projects related to business process improvement or internal team needs.  

Required Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Accounting, Finance and/or Computer Science disciplines preferred

• Typically requires 3 – 7 years of progressive experience with a Big Four firm, or combined experience with a large, complex multi-national company

Knowledge & Skills

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience related to information systems risks, controls and auditing.

• Strong project/time management skills with the ability to organize and handle multiple priorities.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to articulate effectively and professionally.

• Strong understanding of the relationship of information systems, internal controls and business processes with financial statement assertions, including a solid understanding of SOX 404 controls and the underlying risks.

• Knowledge and experience in control theory and professional auditing practices.

• Ability to use relationships and insights to successfully influence others. Builds authentic and trusted relationships to create alignment and support

• Knowledge of US GAAP accounting and internal controls; IFRS knowledge a plus.

• Experience with data analytics and in using Tableau, Microsoft BI, Alteryx, ACL or IDEA a plus.

• Experience with Oracle and/or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are desired.

Certifications

• CISA, CRISC, CISM, CISSP and/or CRISC preferred. Other relevant certifications will be considered.
