The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to work on site three days per week at Denver Human Services Castro (1200 N Federal Blvd, Denver, CO 80204). Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.
What You’ll Do
At Denver Human Services (DHS), we envision a healthy community where people are connected, supported, safe, and well. One in three people in Denver turn to DHS for support at all stages of life. Our employees help children, older adults, families, and individuals navigate social and economic pressures by connecting them to services and experts who support their overall well-being.
DHS’s mission is “to partner with the community to protect those in harm’s way and help all people in need.” The DHS Child Welfare Division is a vital part of that mission as an active and supportive partner to our programs and direct service colleagues. In fulfilling this mission, we understand that the intersections of race and poverty have impacted the disproportionate representation of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) involvement and experience with our agency, the criminal justice system, homelessness, poverty, and poor health outcomes. We are committed to including in our work a strategic focus on equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion for all people.
The DHS Child Welfare Division is seeking an Operations Assistant to join our Adoption/Relative Guardianship Assistance Program (RGAP) unit. We are seeking a team player with strong interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication, who demonstrates an ability to effectively engage DHS internal partners, adoptive parents/guardians, program professionals, and leaders to develop and monitor adoption/RGAP contractual agreements, thereby ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal guidance. Operations Assistants actively manage challenges and opportunities, ushering DHS contracts through all stages of their life cycle from conception to execution and archival statuses.
This Operations Assistant role will be assigned to multiple programs at once including adoption/RGAP assistance, Medicaid, Interstate Compact for Adoption Medicaid Assistance (ICAMA), and fingerprinting. The successful candidate will be expected to cultivate subject matter expertise in the assigned programs and divisions while also having the desire and flexibility to take on new assignments and projects as needed. Collaborating with programs and internal/external clients requires thoughtful engagement and critical thinking skills to discern optimal service delivery models in coordination and compliance with funding requirements as well as local, state, and federal guidance.
Generally, the Operations Assistant:
- Read and interpret contract language to understand terms and conditions of the contract, services provided and allowable costs
- Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local fund rules and regulations
- Serve as subject matter expert on various federal and state financial rules and regulations
- Deliver exceptional customer service in support of internal and external partners
- Provides backup support for all members on the team
- Possess adaptability, coachability, and a teachable mindset
- Demonstrates proficiency in multitasking, a strong aptitude for adapting to new technologies and applications, and a willingness to learn and be coached
- Acts as a liaison by providing technical support and customer service to staff members, other city department/agencies, and the public while maintaining a working knowledge of relevant Child Welfare laws as well as DHS laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to the operational area
- Assist in the development, implementation and update of policies and Standard Operating Procedures for the team
- Ability to multitask, adaptability to new technology and applications, coachable/trainable and teachable
- Evaluates and monitors new or existing procedures for effectiveness, outlines needed changes for improvements, and assists in the implementation of new and revised methods, procedures, or systems
- Trains employees on new procedures and other areas that are specific to the work area
- Performs other related duties as assigned
