As a Pathways Intern (Accounting), you will:

• Receive training in the principles, concepts, work processes, and regulations of one or more functional areas of Accounting.
• On a scheduled basis, following the Pathways Participant Agreement, receives assignments in various Accounting functions to gain an understanding of the various program concepts and operations, develop an understanding of the total mission as well as organizational/functional interrelationships, and develop a foundation for more specialized application of knowledge gained from on-the-job training assignments
• Receive formal and on-the-job training in OPM, General Services Administration and OCFO policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Be instructed on the use of personal computers, and file and data management.
• Prepare Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents, utilizes financial system applications to perform data gathering, research and basic analysis for designated accounting program area

As a Pathways Intern (Accounting), you will participate in meaningful work experiences, training, networking, and developmental opportunities designed to build your skills in doing this work.

• Pathways Internship positions provide for development and training. Assignments become more responsible as incumbent increases knowledge and skills through work experience and academic training. At the full-performance level, you will be expected to:
• Assist a firefighter crew member in controlling and extinguishing fires.
• Perform maintenance and decontamination on tools and equipment after operations are complete.
• Perform basic first aid services for the injured and sick.
• Assist with the operation of pumps, foam generators, hoses, and nozzles and turrets.

• You will identify, collect, document, preserve, and transport evidence to ensure integrity for forensic analysis and judicial proceedings.
• You will enter, upload, maintain, review, and/or update health care records (e.g., patient data, patient identifiers).
• You will receive batch folder, containing chain of custody documents, which serves as the initial source material for data entry purposes.
• You will receive bulk mail deliveries of urine specimens from U.S. Postal Service, other commercial couriers, and in person.
• You will Inventory each shipping container to determine if the specimens, within, are accompanied by the appropriate forms and documentation.
• You will recognize, identify, and annotate discrepancy codes as they apply to box, form, or urine specimen bottle, requiring significant attention to detail and independent judgment.

• Works under close supervision wherein the work is closely reviewed/monitored and detailed guidance provided. Must participate in all required training (emergency rescue drills, emergency action plan simulations).
• Mandatory certifications must be complete within 30 calendar days of employment, after which the incumbent will be reassigned to lifeguard duties at an aquatic facility.
• Training includes lifeguarding, First Aid (American Red Cross or equivalent like Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS) and American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional rescuer or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED).
• For Water Parks upgrade the certification to: 'Waterpark Lifeguarding and First Aid; CPR/PR/AED' (American Red Cross)
• For facilities using Oxygen Administration, the Oxygen Administration certification (American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration" or equivalent training like from the Fire Department) must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty.

• The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
• The duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Participates with senior level auditing staff in planning, designing, organizing, and conducting regulatory and investigative activities of registrants, packers, and live poultry dealers’ operations.
• Incumbent will also assist senior level staff by performing financial auditing related administrative work as assigned. Typical assignments include:
• Assists in conducting on-site financial and operational audits of persons and firms to determine whether their operations are being conducted in conformity with the Packers and Stockyards Act.
• Assists in examining financial and operating records to determine evidence of noncompliance.
• Review previous audit reports, formal orders and stipulations, and annual and special reports to determine if financial practices and conditions comply with the Packers and Stockyards Act.
• Assists in preparing regulatory and investigation reports and notices of violations or findings of noncompliance.
• Works with Auditors on issues concerning official administrative actions.
• Assists senior-level auditing staff in handling complaints from livestock, poultry, and meat marketing industry members.
• Assists and supports the senior-level auditing staff in preparing regional office audit plans and schedules and developing and applying regulatory and investigation activity procedures.

• Assists senior-level staff in identifying issues to prevent or correct unfair practices.
• Assists in reviewing scale test reports received in the regional office to determine regulatory accuracy and completeness of forms.
• Assists senior-level staff in investigating persons or firms subject to the Act to determine whether their operations conform with the Act and regulations.
• Assists in examining financial and operating records to determine evidence of compliance or noncompliance.
• Reviews previous investigation reports, formal orders and stipulations, and annual and special reports submitted by subject persons or firms
• Assists in preparing regulatory and investigation reports and notices of violations of findings of noncompliance.
• Assists and supports the senior-level staff in preparing regional office work plans, schedules, and developing and applying regulatory and investigation activity procedures.
• Assists the senior-level staff in preparing exhibits and other essential materials for preparing and presenting the investigative case.

• Assist with varied but routine environmental protection work to support higher level members of the branch or division for planning for program management of environmental programs.
• Review and summarize a variety of environmental program information data for supervisor’s use in preparing reports and programs evaluations.
• Assist higher graded specialists by performing clear cut assignments that allow employee to become familiar with the basic EPA statues and regulations.
• Work as a team member on a special project or study teams performing day-to-day staff operations to assist higher level analysts in the organization to which assigned.

Newly-hired mathematicians and mathematical statisticians begin their careers in the Mathematics Development Program (MDP). The goal of the three-year MDP is to provide on-the-job training in the broad range of mathematical and statistical sciences at NSA. This is primarily accomplished through 6-month tours in NSA offices of the MDP participant's choosing. Mentorship is provided for each tour and participants work on real mission problems.

MDP members also study cryptologic mathematics, statistical data mining, and related subjects in courses taught by Agency experts. Participants are required to develop skills in programming and using computational resources to solve mission problems. Various short-term and long-term travel opportunities exist for interested participants but are not required. MDP members are able to take advantage of other professional development opportunities available at NSA as well. This includes continuing education opportunities and optional Agency courses in everything from professional communication to goal setting to machine learning. Career mentorship and participation in professional networks such as WIMS (Women in the Mathematical Sciences) are strongly supported. Through the MDP, participants are rooted in the Agency community of mathematicians and mathematical statisticians. Also they are given the opportunity to explore a wide variety of problem sets.
