This position is an Electrical Hardware Design Engineer Internship in the Product Engineering Department's RF and Electronic Design branch.  Interns are provided with opportunities to participate in a wide range of design engineering activities that include concept development, architecting, implementing, and testing printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) including power supply, mixed-signal, FPGA, microcontroller designs.  There are also additional skill development opportunities through participation in printed circuit board layout, signal integrity analysis, power distribution network design, technical trade studies, and evaluation of technology improvements.

The selected candidate will work closely with their assigned mentor on tasks that are beneficial to the intern's skills development and valuable to the programs with which they are working.

Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking talented Summer Interns to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber, and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific, and IT solutions.

Dynetics' Mechanical Design and Analysis Department is actively seeking college students (Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Grad) to work at our Huntsville facility over the summer break (May, June, July, and August depending on student availability). This position will allow students the opportunity to experience hands-on technical work in design, 3D modeling, engineering drawing development, and/or analysis using CAE tools and hand calculations.

Candidate(s) will receive mentorship from junior and senior engineers, and the intern will take actual ownership of design or analysis tasks. They will be given challenges that make a real impact on hardware that is delivered to our customers.

Primary Responsibilities

• Support engineering design and/or analysis activities for DoD customers utilizing a broad engineering knowledge base.
• Develop conceptual CAD models and produce engineering drawings for production.
• Develop analysis models for calculating stress response in system structures in effort to validate design.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to produce excellent solutions for customers.

Basic Qualifications

• Student must be working toward a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited college or university.
• Student must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Overall GPA of 3.5 or above is required.
• Student must be willing to work in-office in the Huntsville, AL

Preferred Qualifications

• Students with the following experience are desired:

• Experience with CAD software such as Solidworks or CREO
• Understanding of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standard
• Experience with analysis-oriented software, such as Ansys and/or FEMAP
• Desire to solve complex technical challenges and learn from a team of fantastic young engineers

What to expect:

The Polaris Operations Internship program is a 12-week program designed for future leaders who seek a culture built on innovative, passionate and collaborative individuals. As a Manufacturing Operations intern you will participate in projects aligned with Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain and Lean teams.

Manufacturing Operations internship assignments could include (but are not limited to):

• Analyzing and evaluating manufacturing methods and standards.
• Providing solutions to problems that adversely affect operator safety, quality, productivity, and cost
• Developing and updating process documentation and procedure instructions
• Supporting day to day assembly line activity
• Assisting in development and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment
• Supporting lean initiatives
• Identifying and implementing continuous improvement projects

Interns who demonstrate exceptional performance and a passion to learn may be offered an additional internship or a full-time position, depending on graduation date eligibility.

Required Qualifications:

Leidos Dynetics Group is seeking a talented Radar Signal Processing Engineering Intern to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex sensor and radar orientated problems. We have offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions. This position within Dynetics’ Advanced Technology Integration department affords new or experienced engineers continued opportunities to learn and grow in technical knowledge of sensor and radar systems. The department encourages and frequently incorporates new ideas from all employees into our many sensor projects which span the entire DoD ecosystem. Opportunities for advancement into senior technical roles, as well as project or personnel management are also available.

You will support Advanced Technology Radar and EW programs including research and development of advanced digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms; high-fidelity radar and RF modeling, simulation, and analysis; integration and field testing of RF sensors and systems; and CONUS/OCONUS deployment of advanced sensor systems. The Engineer in this role is expected to quickly immerse into radar and sensor phenomenology and our existing tools and models to begin contributing to new features.

You will also be assigned a variety of tasks related to signal processing, measurement tracker processing, system performance metrics, sensor simulation, or utility tools as part of larger efforts or customer goals. In this role your organizational skills will be paramount and managing multiple tasks while ensuring the work remains compatible with the group’s larger codebases.

Basic Qualification

-Candidate must possess or in the process of achieving a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Math, or Physics from an ABET-accredited school.

Must have excellent math skills and/or possess and show good fundamentals in one or more of the following:

· Signals and systems

· Digital signal processing

· Tracking algorithms

· Electromagnetics

Should be able to apply one or more of these skills to the areas of radar modeling & simulation, antenna array theory, digital signal processing, tracking, algorithm development, and field testing of sensor systems.

Demonstrated experience in understanding, evaluating, and implementing published scientific literature from sources such as IEEE is highly valued.

Experience working with Matlab, Python, or similar scientific-based programming tools to implement math or scienced based phenomenology related to linear systems, digital signal processing, tracking, or electromagnetics are valued. Further experience in high performance computing languages such as C++ is highly valued.

Experience working on a team of 3 or more on a project which utilizes collaboration tools such as GIT, JIRA, or similar tools are valued.
