About Us:

Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC supports 18 summer courses from May through August in 2024 at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, MA consisting of students and faculty attending from 30+ countries around the world.

The Zeiss Training Group Summer Interns at MBL are an integral part of our summer support structure. Once interns are oriented, their primary role is to support student and faculty image acquisition activities throughout the summer. This includes basic set up of widefield microscopes, an understanding of Kohler illumination, brightfield, phase contrast, DIC and fluorescence contrasting methods, troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues, as well as conveying an understanding of what constitutes a good scientific image and how to prepare for and carry out image analysis. 

Here's What You'll Do:

This will be an opportunity to learn, operate and support more advanced systems as well, including laser scanning confocal microscopy, Airyscan and potentially other super-resolution techniques. MBL Interns must have good analytic and time management skills, and be detail oriented and conscientious. Additionally, be able to work closely with people from a diverse range of cultural and scientific backgrounds. Inventory and QC along with tracking of equipment is critical. An outgoing disposition is an advantage, with a willingness to proactively engage with faculty and students. Working in overlapping shifts will be essential, so enjoying a strong team environment but also being able to work independently, are both essential for a successful internship.

Do you qualify?

• Student currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. degree in biology, physics, optics, biochemistry or related field.

• Skilled in microscopy, optics, and imaging with a focus or interest in biology.

• Proficiency in computing hardware and software including Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint).

• Ability to work independently for periods of time.

• Excellent verbal & written communication skills.​

• Must be able to lift, using proper form and technique, up to 50 pounds.

• Must be able and willing to work between 40 to 50 hours per week, including shift work.

Nice to Haves:

• Experience with imaging and image analysis software preferred.

The hourly pay range for this position is $15.50 – $17.00.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Learn about the professional services and accounting industry and the work we do.
• Experience an interactive case study, serving clients in a variety of services and industries.
• Shadow professionals at different levels in their work serving clients and making an impact in the community. These opportunities may include sitting in on either external or internal meetings, client site visits, participating in the day in the life of a CLA family member, and contributing to office and/or firm related community impact events.
• Contribute to assigned projects and may assist with the development and maintenance of documentation or records.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Must be 16 years of age or older at start of internship.
• Currently enrolled in high school with a junior or senior status.
• Exhibit curiosity about the accounting industry.
• Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to learn new technologies.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to travel to the assigned local office and possibly external locations for client visits and/or community impact experiences.
• Must have availability between June 17th and July 19th, Monday-Thursday 9 am to 4 pm daily, with limited conflicts. The only exception being July 1-July 5, interns will be off the entire week.

About the role:

THIS IS AN UNDERGRADUATE Summer only INTERN position located in the Greater Boston area with the ability to sit in our office in Boston in a hybrid capacity. Only full-time students will be considered.

This position performs a variety of internship assignments that supports the Human Resources team for the benefit of our teammate programs.  Responsibilities include HR projects and administration.  This position is a part time role, within our virtual profit center and has accountability for in-office work in Boston on a regular basis. 

Core Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Will assist with filing of personnel and confidential teammate files in Sharepoint in accordance with established Brown & Brown best practices and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations

• Supports teammate communications process, drafting HR announcements and all-teammate communications under the direction of our HR team

• Administrative support for HR projects and administration

• Supports the activities of our Culture Committee on projects and virtual events

• Supports the HR Leader with activities related to the Company’s Mental Health Teammate Resource Group (ERG)

• Assists in the recruitment process by scheduling interviews, follows up with candidates when appropriate and communicates effective messaging on behalf of our companies

• Assists as needed in the teammate Onboarding process for new hires

• Assists in preparing documents, such as offer letters and employment agreements under the direction of our HR teammates.

• Supports the HR team with ad hoc requests or HR projects as needed

Skills needed:

• Must be actively pursuing a college degree in an HR-related field

Purpose of the Job:

• To assist Hardware Engineers in day-to-day activities involving designing, developing, modifying and testing of new security products and systems.

Main Responsibilities

• This individual will be working as a member of a project team responsible for:

• Feasibility studies of applicable technologies or circuits

• Electrical and Mechanical design (digital, analog and RF circuits), using schematic, 3D modelling and simulation design tools

• Debugging and design verification testing of electro-mechanical systems.

• Working in cross functional teams with other groups within product development (Mechanical, Software, Purchasing, Test Engineering, Manufacturing).

• Design documentation, collecting test data and creating verification test reports

Education and Experience Required:

• 2nd year Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering student

• Be available for a minimum of 12 months to a maximum of 16 months for this internship

• Experience with design of digital and/or analog circuits, utilizing acceptable engineering design practices preferred.

• Familiar with schematic capture tool(s) preferred

• Familiar with RF circuits, PCB layout, VHDL, or simulation tools is an asset.

• Familiar with product approvals procedures and requirements such as Safety, radiated and conducted emissions is an asset.

Specialized Skills:

• Training provided: Schematic capture tools, lab equipment tools and other design tools as required

Equipment Used:

• Computers, Oscilloscopes, Thermal Chambers, familiarity with and use of test, diagnostic and measuring equipment

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

• Visual concentration while using CAD design tools or lab equipment.

• Occasional work outdoors for short periods of time may be required.
