Midlothian Council are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced individual to undertake the important and fulfilling role of Fire Safety Adviser for the Local Authority.
This role holds a significant position within the local authority and will work closely with all relevant duty holders to ensure they achieve compliance regards fire safety within their establishments.
The role based within the Health, Safety & Resilience Team of Protective Services is key in ensuring the overall compliance of the Council with its statutory obligations and internal policies.
The role which is considered suitable for job share will be delivered on a hybrid working model giving the successful applicant the opportunity to combine working from home and office. Midlothian Council is a semi rural authority located immediately south of the City of Edinburgh and is the fastest growing Local Authority in Scotland.
With a range of buildings including new schools and modernised buildings in the property portfolio this will be a varied and fulfilling role for the correct candidate(s).
KNOWLEDGE:
It is essential that the Jobholder is a corporate member of the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) and in addition they must hold a fire risk assessment qualification allowing access to the IFE Register of Fire Risk Assessors and Auditors.
Basic keyboarding skills and understanding of Microsoft database, spreadsheet and word processing applications are also essential, as is a broad experience of Fire Safety at a professional level, including the provision of advice on the technology of fire and practical working knowledge of fire risk assessments. The jobholder must also be competent in written report writing; able to communicate effectively at all levels; and have experience of working independently to achieve targets.
Experience of training staff, the public or non-professionals in fire safety and the use of appropriate computer packages to progress own workload is desirable.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.
Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £37,618.22 per annum.
