Voyageurs National Park is located in northern Minnesota. The park encompasses over 218,000 acres of boreal forest and water along the Canadian border. The park is a class one air shed, and the lakes of the park are identified as outstanding resource value waters within the State. Lakes include Rainy, Kabetogama, Namakan and Sand Point; along with 26 smaller remote lakes.

The area made up a portion of the Voyageurs highway that opened the North American Continent to European settlement. The waterways of the park were integral to the growth and movement of the Ojibwe people of the region. The majority of work in the park requires access via boat in the summer or snowmobile in the winter. During winter operations the park maintains over 100 miles of snowmobile trails and 25 miles of ice roads.

As a Public Affairs Specialist your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

• Develop and implement communication strategies to advance priority natural resource conservation programs.

Specific Functions:

A TRAINING TECHNICIAN, GS-1702-9, (1) Formulates, oversees and evaluates the overall training programs for the command. Develops yearly and longer training plans. Issues instructions and procedures to subordinate units for the conduct of training activities that meet the requirements of the Department of the Army, National Guard Bureau, major army headquarters and/or other higher headquarters. Establishes and conducts a training evaluation program for subordinate units. Creates or modifies the unit's mission essential task lists in accordance with critical wartime mission requirements. Reviews training evaluation and inspection reports to identify systemic problems and trends. Determines and formulates needed revisions or improvements to training activities. Reviews training plans and schedules of subordinate units for approval and revision as necessary. (3) Directs scheduling and coordination for the use of training sites and facilities. Ensures the arrangement for equipment and supplies needed for training activities. Procures or directs the procurement of training aids, manuals, or other instructional material. Maintains liaison with personnel at local, state or federally operated training sites. Identifies the requirement for the coordination and maintenance of usage agreements for local/private training areas. May conduct environmental impact assessments for training sites/areas. (5) Serves as security coordinator for the command. Provides guidance and assistance in implementing and following security measures for such items as documents, arms and ammunition, and communication/automation equipment (COMSEC/COMPUSEC). May be designated as Custodian or Alternate Custodian of Classified Documents, COMSEC/COMPUSEC account Custodian/Alternate and/or Physical Security Manager as required by regulations and local situations. Functions as the primary advisor for anti-terrorism/force protection (AT/FP) measures and ensures all AT/FP requirements are accomplished.
