We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team to help build a foundation of independence and confidence for each of our students aged 16-25. As a trusted partner in their growth journey, you'll work closely with teachers to create a safe, empowering environment where students feel free to explore, learn, and thrive. By supporting the development of life skills and fostering a positive mindset, you'll be helping learners unlock their potential in ways that reach beyond the classroom. Main Purpose and Scope of the Role
- Support and guide learners to maximise their independence, communication, and social skills.
- Work closely with teachers to provide a coherent, individualised, and person-cantered learning experience.
- Act as a positive role model and advocate for learners, helping them achieve their goals and supporting them in overcoming challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver structured independence and life skills activities, tailored to meet individual needs. Help learners identify and achieve personal targets within and outside the curriculum.
- Model and reinforce appropriate social and employability skills. Promote positive behaviour and resolve conflicts promptly, encouraging students to take responsibility for their actions.
- Provide one-to-one and group support as directed by the teacher. Assist learners with practical tasks, such as note-taking and using technology.
- Provide all aspects of personal care support, including administering medication, supporting with meals, and mobility assistance. Ensure compliance with infection control guidelines and safe disposal of clinical waste.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience working with individuals with special educational needs, ideally in a similar educational setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and a proactive approach to addressing learners' unique needs. A positive "can-do" attitude and a commitment to fostering learner independence.
- Current safeguarding training and enhanced DBS certificate (with online update service registration) or willingness to complete this upon hiring.
