Physician (Vascular Surgery) duties consist of but are not limited to the following:

• Surgical duties that include: admissions, consultations, preoperative work ups, as well as postoperative care to correct or treat various vascular conditions, illnesses and injuries.
• Operates or directs the operation of fluoroscopic equipment for a medical procedure.

The Pharmacy Controlled Substance Technician prepares and fills inpatient and outpatient orders and requests for controlled substances. The technician is responsible for transferring controlled substances from the inpatient pharmacy vault to outpatient pharmacy working stock, and to all inpatient and outpatient clinic CS cabinets or Pyxis machines, on a regular basis so as to assure that an adequate working stock is maintained in each area. This position requires thorough knowledge and understanding of federal, VA, and facility regulations regarding controlled substances and pharmacy processes in general and involves performing complex procedures over a range of functions.

Controlled Substancefunctions include, but are not limited to:

• Conducts all inventories of the vault, Pyxis, and Cache required by federal regulations and as described in VHA Handbooks 1108.1 and 1108.2 for the site of responsibility including the pharmacy annual inventory, biennial inventory, and the 72 hour inventories, and as needed vault inventories.
• Present at the monthly, unannounced inspection of the Pharmacy controlled substance vault and assists the Controlled Substance Compliance Inspectors to complete the monthly inspections.

As a Health Systems Specialist, responsible for directing, leading and guiding the service lines or services in any projects that may involve management support. Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:

• Develop policies and plans for the organization;
• Provide active and well informed administrative participation in planning for the delivery of health care;
• Develop, evaluate, and modify organizational structure and systems to achieve program goals;
• Participate in the analysis and interpretation of workload and other data used in resource planning;
• Direct service lines/ services throughout the hospital through the medical center planning activities;

• Works in coordination with other internal reviewing services regarding complex audits and internal/external reviews of a national concern; i. e, fiscal efficiencies and organizational structure that are reviewed by prominent parties such as the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
• Tracks both routine and uncommon deadlines initiated by OIG/GAO and internal reviewing officials to ensure timely submission of responses and actions.
• Communicates with responsible staff agency members to ensure completion of all requested actions and appropriately closes out all requests.
• Works closely with senior management and others in implementing and evaluating policies, plans, and internal operational systems such as correspondence management, information tracking among pertinent offices and stakeholders, and internal/external communication

Privileges include admission, work up, diagnosis, and provision of non-surgical treatment including consultation for patients admitted or in need of care to treat general medical problems, and provide consultative services to patients in the Long-Term Care setting.

The Hematologist/Oncologist is able to evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment in an outpatient setting or in the form of inpatient consultative services to patients of all ages presenting with illnesses and disorders of the blood and blood-forming tissues and/or malignant tumors. This includes performing and interpreting peripheral blood smears, bone marrow aspirations and biopsy, administration of chemotherapeutic agents and biological response to modifiers through all therapeutic routes, including intrathecal chemotherapy, the management and care of indwelling venous access catheters, plasmapheresis, and therapeutic phlebotomy.

Administrative duties include:

• Active involvement in teaching residents and students, periodically directing Noon Conferences for their didactic training;
• Participation in the educational programs for Acute Care personnel as well as the medical staff;
• Participation in monitoring the quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care.

The Orthotist, Prosthetist or Orthotist/Prosthetist, provide appropriate orthotic and/or prosthetic devices and treatment.

• An examination of the patient and assessment of their individual needs and desires.
• Compliance with the treatment plan.
• Design, component selection, measurement/casting of the patient, fabrication and fitting of the device to the patient.
• Proper documentation of the patient record.
• Continuing care and periodic examination of the patient and the orthotic/prosthetic device to assess fit, function and changing needs of the patient.
• Communicates with patient and/or caregiver about the recommended treatment plan, to involve them in orthotic or prosthetic care; include disclosure of potential risks/benefits.
