The LPN is responsible for delivering secure and individualized nursing care to patients within the Specialty clinic setting. The Registered Nurse for the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) in the Greenville Outpatient Mental Health Clinics will work with the Mental Health Team and collaborate with licensed independent providers (LIPs) to assure high quality care to the Veteran with psychiatric diagnoses/mental health needs.

The BHIP Nurse works closely within an interdisciplinary team framework to help foster independent living through appropriate management of the client's mental illness by providing assessments, planning, interventions and evaluation of treatment. Mental health treatment provided is documented within prescribed guidelines in CPRS.

Duties include but not are not limited to:

• Assist Veterans in the following ways: Provide Veterans and their family members with education regarding their illness, medications and treatment plan.
• Provide outreach to clients who are having problems with treatment adherence and who may be relapsing.
• Coordinate with other agencies and make referrals to provide patients with necessary community services.
• Refer to, consult with and coordinate care with other VA health care providers.

The duties of the Nursing Assistant in the Nursing Service include, but are not limited to:

The Advanced MSA works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model (i.e., patient aligned care team, emergency department which includes Rotating Shift and Possible Weekends, care in the community (CITC) or other specialty care setting where the patient aligned care team model is used such as oncology, HIV, SCI, Military Sexual Trauma, etc.).

Major Duties: Duties include, but are not limited to: Recommends changes to existing clinic procedures based on current administrative guidelines. Expertise in utilizing numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics involved in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. Coordinates with the patient care team to review clinic appointment availability (utilization) to ensure that clinic schedules are closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the clinics, and makes adjustments as necessary. MSAs at this level develop and/or maintain effective and efficient communication with the patient, interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model teams , VA medical centers, and other agencies (e.g., assist with communications during the inpatient to outpatient discharge; communicate with non-VA medical facilities; prepare correspondence to notify patients of normal lab results; manage a system for follow-up care such as consults, tests, etc.). FUNCTIONS:

The Advanced MSA works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model and performs receptionist duties, customer service and other duties assigned for the proper and timely treatment of patients and maintains appointment schedules for one or more outpatient clinics. The incumbent must assist with clinic access contingency plans by adjusting appointment times, location, or dates as well as shift patients to other healthcare providers as conflict with staffing and/or coverage occurs. The Advanced MSA may be required to serve on more than one PACT or in more than one Specialty Clinic area, or rotate in any MSA area. Supports patient safety standards using the correct Veterans Affairs identification of all patients through the use of two forms of identification, name and full Social Security Number. The patient may also present the Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC) for identification. The incumbent must use each interaction with the patient to validate and update patient demographic information, either in person during check-in or over the phone, to decrease the incidence of returned mail due to incorrect addresses and inability to contact patient by phone due to incorrect number.

The Advanced MSA may also be required to train other MSA levels on scheduling, Insurance Capture Buffer (ICB), scanning, patient movements, data management, call responsiveness, decedent affairs and health benefits processes.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

• An Ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who possesses the advanced training and experience, as well as the license, in diagnosing and treating disorders of the eye. Ophthalmologists are physicians who diagnose and treat diseases of the eye, including glaucoma and cataracts; vision problems such as nearsightedness; and eye injuries.
• Due to their extensive training, ophthalmologists can often link eye problems to other disorders such as; brain tumors, diabetes, or multiple sclerosis.
• Surgeons are physicians who operate to repair injuries, correct deformities, prevent diseases, and generally improve the health of patients. They examine patients to determine if surgery is necessary, evaluate the risks involved, and select the appropriate surgical procedure.
• The Ophthalmology Section of Surgery Service functions under the overall management of the Section Chief of Ophthalmology.
• The physician functions within an interdisciplinary staff consisting of physicians, physician extenders, technicians, administrative and clerical staff. He/she is responsible and accountable for ensuring the provision of comprehensive surgical/clinical services and complies with established policies within the Department of Surgery/ Ophthalmology section.

The incumbent serves as a Medical Administrative Specialist- Health Administrative Specialist on Duty (HOD) located in the Office of the Chief, Health Administration Service (HAS), or Business Office (BO), or Medical Administration Service (MAS), or similarly named and organized service; the position has both the authority and responsibility to represent both the Medical Center Director and the Chief, HAS on all administrative matters occurring when assigned to other than a normal tour of duty.

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
- Delegated full authority and responsibility to exercise the Medical Center Director's prerogative in medical administrative matters and issues that may arise.
- Represents management in (non-policy making) administrative matters.
- Represents management in matters pertaining to the lawful retention of veterans in the VAMC.
- Maintains continuity of functions and provides full medical administrative support during other than normal tours of duty to clinical and administrative medical center staff.
- Responsible for achieving management objectives and supporting the decision of management in carrying out duties.
- Provides technical guidance necessary to meet procedural, legal, and administrative requirements relating to the care and treatment of patients to achieve optimum use of available resources.
- Processes administrative issues surrounding beneficiary death, seriously ill cases, elopements, suicides, assaults, deaths on arrival (DOAs), homicides, code blue, cost recovery matters, and facility or community disasters, etc.
- Assists in responding to emergencies, determines priorities and nature of action to be taken.
- Assists with computer issues during non-business hours.
- Maintains good public and media relations as instructed and trained by the Public Affairs Officer until the designated employee arrives.
- Conducts analytical studies on operational processes, issue topics, or related special projects as assigned.
- Reviews data and information for trends, problem areas, and makes recommendations to management to resolve issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Operates and unloads two 400-pound washer/extractors, one 200-pound washer extractor and two 85-pound washer extractor.
• Loads and operates two 200-pound dryers and one 100-pound dryer, utilizing the overhead rail system.
• Cleans all dryer lint screens and canisters routinely, thus reducing energy consumption.
• Receives, weighs and records bulk soiled linen from hospital and three contract suppliers.
• Weighs and sorts soiled linen using the automated sorting system.
• Places soiled linen on the overhead rail system by using the pneumatic controls on the lift station.
• Occasionally performs dyeing and stain removal.
• Does manual and automatic loads of fabric requiring special handling such as fiberglass, mops, dust mops, plastics, uniforms, nomex, and other materials.
• Operates a diesel or gasoline powered vehicle equipped with either an automatic or a ten-speed transmission and a hydraulic lift. Vehicle has a gross weight of 12,880 pounds and is capable of carrying loads weighing up to 7,000 pounds.
• Gathers, assembles, consolidates and lifts bags of soiled linen into carts at all souled linen collection areas within the Medical Center.
• Loads carts of clean linen onto the truck at the clean laundry dock, delivers these carts to all linen distribution points and returns all empty linen carts to the laundry for restocking.
• Adheres to established delivery schedules and time frames when completing deliveries.
• Performs routine cleaning and maintenance on vehicle and equipment and reports other maintenance or repair needs to the Textile Care Manager or Work Leader.
• Required to assume the duties of a laundry worker, so that all hospital needs can be met on a timely basis.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Duties include:

• Assigning and evaluating the work of subordinate staff;

• Evaluating new products, equipment, and systems in order to make recommendations for improved operations; Identifying educational or training needs;
• Making final decisions on selections;
• Evaluating performance, and taking disciplinary action when necessary.
• Responsible for extracting and analyzing data in order to provide reports in support of performance measures to senior management.
• Plans and organizes work with general assistance from the supervisor as to meet local and VA-wide time frames to complete analysis requirements, reports and special assignments and only refers to the non-routine and high technical problems to his/her supervisor.
• Responsible for reporting backlogs, difficulties in meeting deadlines, uncooperative physicians, or difficulty in securing information from clinicians or the record.
• Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of information obtained to carry out required duties.
• Routinely communicate with physicians, case managers, and other allied health professional staff using sound interpersonal skills and is constantly aware of the sensitive information.
