This position serves as a VISN 22 Veterans Transportation Program Manager within the VISN Office. Provides management, support, and required oversight to assist VA transportation providers and key business staff to medical centers across the VISN. The position manages the VISN VTP including Veterans Transportation Service, Beneficiary Travel, the Highly Rural Transportation Grant Programs.

Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Recommending and initiating counseling and disciplinary actions for subordinates, as guided by Human Resources Management, Union contracts and Recreation policies

• Analyzing current use and projects needs for formulation of the annual service budget estimating operating requirements including staffing, equipment, supplies, and services

• Assisting in the development of the performance improvement program to continually monitor therapy functions of WH & HS staff for quality and appropriateness of CAT/recreation therapy
• Assuring the well being/recreation therapy program is in compliance with applicable standards established by OSHA, VHA, JC, CARF and other reviewing agencies

• Overseeing a continuing staff development program for therapists and therapy assistants
• May serve as a mentor or preceptor for any creative arts/recreation therapy student
• Instructing, supervising and evaluating student/intern

Duties include, but are not limited to:
Clinical

• Ensuring treatment plans develop all CAT/Recreation Therapists to promote the goals of the program in which each Veteran is participating
• Developing and implementing recreation therapy-creative arts programs
• Keeping abreast of current scientific, technological, theoretical and treatment modality changes, as well as management theory relating to the provision of recreation therapy
• Developing and implementing recreation therapy programs using principles of evidenced-based practice to establish and/or improve recreation therapy guidelines

• Responsible for the overall supervision of the employees assigned to the Wellbeing/RT section
• Actively recruiting potential candidates, interviewing applicants and coordinating in the selection process with Human Resources, selecting best candidates, orienting new employees, creating employee performance standards, completing semi­annual/annual performance appraisals, recommending performance awards/promotions, and training

DUTIES

• Focuses on researching, diagnosing and treating skin disorders and diseases.
• Complete patient examinations and may perform minor skin surgeries. Job duties also entail prescribing topical medication for skin problems.
• Performs dermatological procedures as there are many factors influencing the choice of treatment:
  • 1. Type of skin cancer or noncancerous or precancerous growth
  • 2. Location, size, number, and aggressiveness of the tumor
  • 3. Patient's general health
  • 4. Side effects, possible complications, benefits, and cure rate of a procedure
  • 5. Dermatologist's experience and familiarity with a particular procedure

• Examinations-Evaluates patients by examining thoroughly. Appropriate clinical, laboratory and other pertinent data is obtained to determine care the patient is provided.
• Diagnosis--Interprets and evaluates clinical data for the purpose of determining diagnosis and clinical status.
• Therapeutic Ability--Prescribes appropriate and timely treatment; applies indicated therapeutic procedures; recognizes and assesses changes in behavior, symptoms, signs, and other pertinent facts about the patient and modifies plan of treatment when indicated. Recognizes own capabilities and limitations.
• Effectiveness in Emergencies--The incumbent is readily available; and quick in recognizing emergency situations and taking timely necessary action. Has active certification in BLS, ACLS, or both as required by facility Bylaws.
• Patient Management--Develops and maintains rapport and gains the confidence of patients and relatives through competence and interpersonal skills to the end that patients and others are informed participants in the treatment effort.
• Consultations and Specialty Skills--Recognizes the need for consultation and utilizing facility or clinic specialty skills in diagnosis and treatment. Responds to inpatient/outpatient consultations in a timely manner, documents consultations according to procedure and is actively engaged with the primary team or clinician in collaborating on the patient's care and management.
• Record keeping-records the History/Physical and other examinations and changes in patient's status promptly. Unusual incidents are promptly reported to the appropriate official. Clear, accurate, and adequate clinical records are kept current and completed at time of discharge. The treatment plan is clearly stated. The physician is fully knowledgeable of and utilizes the Computerized Patient Record System. All progress notes, orders are to be completed and signed daily.
• Encounters - All encounters to be completed daily by physician as this affects hospital funding.
• Consults Closure: Consults are required to be completed by the provider at the time patient has been seen.
