Clinical Responsibilities:

• Functions independently under scope of practice as defined by the medical center to provide chronic medication management to patients, including women's health (e.g., preconception, contraception, pregnancy, menopause), and chronic disease management (e.g., HTN type 2 DM, hyperlipidemia, tobacco cessation, COPD). This includes, but is not limited to the following: initiating, modifying, or discontinuing medication therapy, ordering labs and other test to help determine efficacy or toxicity of medications, designing, implementing, assessing, monitoring, and documenting therapeutic plans utilizing best evidence or VHA and/or SAVAHCS published guidelines.

The SAVAHCS offers a beautiful 150-acre campus with a full range of medical and mental health services for Veterans, including a 31-bed inpatient psychiatry unit, a 25-bed mental health residential rehabilitation treatment program for substance use disorders (SUD) and PTSD treatment, intensive outpatient programs for SUD and PTSD, homeless programs, and more. As a BHIP Psychiatrist you will provide psychiatric care (diagnosis, treatment, and crisis management) to Veterans with mental health and substance use disorders as part of an integrated team of psychiatric providers, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and clinical pharmacists throughout the SAVAHCS. The BHIP Psychiatrist is responsible for providing psychiatric care for a panel of approximately 500-525 outpatient Veterans with a wide range of mental health disorders using multiple modalities (in-person and virtual). Full-time BHIP Psychiatrists are expected to provide 30 hours of direct patient care per week. The BHIP Psychiatrist serves as a clinical leader and provides clinical consultation and assistance with patients assigned to the BHIP Team. The BHIP Psychiatrist provides cross-coverage for psychiatric colleagues in outpatient. The psychiatrist may participate in teaching and supervising Psychiatry Residents and Medical Students in the outpatient BHIP clinic and/or inpatient psychiatric unit. This position requires 3-4 weeks per year of home call (psychiatry resident is first call) and in-house rounding on the weekend. Weekend days are compensated by having weekdays off. The BHIP Psychiatrist must be able to obtain affiliate faculty appointment with the University of Arizona College of Medicine.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNED DUTIES.
Staff physicians, Emergency Medicine Section, maintain professional, technical, and administrative knowledge, competencies, and skills to provide effective, timely and quality responses to patients' clinical needs and problems.. All staff comply with credentialing and privileging and other monitoring and evaluation requirements. The physicians maintain high clinical standards, and continually strive to maintain current on best practices in Emergency Medicine. The physicians comply with current standards for medical record documentation and residency supervision.
FUNCTIONS OR SCOPES OF PRACTICE.
The above responsibilities interplay in achieving quality patient care. The EM physician provides service consisting of the diagnosis, care and treatment of patients to all patients who present to the ED.



Work Schedule: This department is 24/7. Hours vary based on need. Will be a 10, 12 or 14 hour shift.

Major duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Set up cafeteria lines, steam tables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold food items
• Serve food cafeteria style by placing uniform portions of food on customers'/patients' plates
• Break down and clean assigned area when the meal is finished and return food to the kitchen
• Set up dining room tables for service, place food and beverages on tables, and replenish items as necessary
• Return soiled trays and dishes to the dish room after meals
• Deliver meal trays to the patients' bedsides
• Brew coffee according to the number of servings required
• Assemble and toss fresh fruit or green salads in quantity using prepared dressings and portions into standard serving sizes
• Apportion other food items into standard serving sizes using the proper utensils and containers
• Make cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients and pack box lunches
• Work in one or more functional areas of the kitchen such as food preparation, dish and pot washing, dry and refrigerated storage and receiving, and the serving line
• Sort, wash, peel and cut fresh fruits and vegetables
• Operate and break down equipment
• Perform heavy-duty cleaning tasks throughout the food service and related areas
• Separate food waste and trash from dishes, glasses and silverware in the dish washing area
• Remove inspection doors, strainer pans, screens and spray arms for preventive maintenance of the dish machine
• Unload delivery trucks

• Scrape, soak, scour, and scrub the heavier cooking utensils

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Interpret requests or instructions from radiologist or medical officers.
• Prepares room, equipment and materials needed for patient procedures.
• Properly verifies the patient's identity using two unique identifiers and using active rather than passive identification; follows VHA directives and policies.
• Explains procedures to patient in a manner that will gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
• Transfer patients from stretcher or wheelchair to sonographer exam table utilizing safe patient handling techniques; ergonomic methods and devices.
• Positions the patient for desired results; utilizing positioning cushions and privacy shields as appropriate.
• Performs diagnostic ultrasound examination on multiple areas of the body, including, but not limited to the abdomen, neck, chest, extremities, pelvis and retroperitoneal space, for the purpose of acquiring high quality examinations that assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patient medical disorders.
• Performs Intra-Operative Ultrasound examinations to assist the Interventional Radiologists in tumor ablation procedures in a sterile surgical environment.
• Sets up equipment, makes multiple simultaneous settings and adjustments in operation of the equipment, and manually maneuvers the transducer to perform the exam; insuring accurate results.
• Obtain pertinent clinical data from the patient, electronic health record, requisition, and interviewing the patient and/or family.
• Properly selects patient's information from the HIS/RIS list on the workstation, verifies patient information prior to scanning. Annotations are made, correct orientation of the image, configures the image before transmitting to PACS.
• Perform computer work and required forms associated with patient exams, credit of patient visits, complications and/or quality improvement activities of the department.
• Maintain a neat and clean work area, including desks and countertops at all times. Ensuring supplies within assigned work area are properly supplied/stocked so that examinations are not delayed due to lack of necessary equipment and supplies. Assist in maintaining inventory of supplies and notify supervisor of low level of supplies in a timely manner.
• Maintain Ultrasound equipment as directed by the manufacturer.
• Responsible for the quality assurance of the scan (positioning/label/technique/network information) prior to transmission to the PAC's network.
• Maintain electronic records of patient exams assuring that the images acquired are transferred into the patient record and perform clerical duties as related to patient care as it pertains to release of information and image disc creation.
• Assists the Interventional Radiologist in the performance of cyst punctures, aspiration biopsies, and catheter placements for the purpose of diagnostic treatment using ultrasound techniques. This requires the use of surgical sterile techniques, syringes, needles, contrast, etc.
• Develops and maintains patient prep procedures so that patients and wards understand the proper preparations for ultrasound examinations in an effort to minimize delays of examinations. These preps are disseminated either by written preparation information or by telephone conversation.
• Explain procedure, answer questions relating to the procedure, position patient for all necessary views and tend to their comfort for the duration of the procedure. Requires the exercise of judgement to assess and respond to patient's needs prior to, during, and after the procedure.
• Distributes ultrasound examinations and related information to the radiologist responsible for the interpretation of the exams. This is done so that treatment based on diagnosis may be effectuated in a timely manner.
• Maintains competency and thorough knowledge of the processes for Critical, Semi-Critical, and Non-Critical Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) and Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs) that document the process and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME and follow established procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME and follow established procedures for all RME.
