For over 60 years, East 15 has produced actors, directors, producers, theatre practitioners and technicians for the international stage, TV, film and radio. In 2000, East 15 merged with the University of Essex, opening an exciting new chapter in the history of both institutions and offering more opportunities to students, including our specialist courses. East 15 offers an extraordinary, dynamic and unique portfolio of Undergraduate, Masters and PhD courses that span many areas of training for actors, directors, producers, technical theatre specialists and students of theatre practice. A member of the Federation of Drama Schools, it is one of a leading group of UK conservatoires and is now one of the largest specialist drama schools in the UK, with a distinguished international teaching staff and an undergraduate and extensive postgraduate population of over 800 students.
We are now looking to appoint a Theatre Manager for the Corbett Theatre
Duties of the Role
Act as Front of House Manager and Box Office Manager for East 15 productions: recruiting and managing student staff members; ensuring a safe and pleasant experience for the general public attending productions / events; selling and distributing tickets; running post-show finance reports;
Liaise with Estates and the Students Union to ensure that there is adequate service provision for Corbett productions and events
To organize and oversee FOH and Box Office for London Productions of Loughton courses, as required.
Creation of programmes for student productions
If appropriate, act as duty manager for East 15 productions
Support the marketing of other East 15 events (such as Final-Year Industry Showcases) as appropriate
Support the Marketing Officer by leading on the marketing for internal productions
Work with Theatre Manager at Clifftown in the management of the Spectrix Box Office System
Assist with the organization and running of school-wide events such as Open Days, Auditions and Farewell ceremonies
To work with the Head of School to consider ways to utilise, and support, the theatre facility to grow income for the School.
General Administration for the department as required.
Skills and qualifications required
The applicant should be able to demonstrate recent administrative experience in a challenging and varied role, preferably in a theatre or an Arts setting. They should be experienced in dealing with customers with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to thrive in a busy working environment. They should be able to work independently, as well as part of a small team. The need to have strong attention to detail and be able to work to deadlines. An interest in the Arts and/or Higher Education, as well as a background in marketing or technical theatre is desirable.
