1. Ensure safe and effective clinical practice

Assist registered nurses/health care professionals in the delivery of individualised holistic patient care. Work will be guided by standard operating procedures, protocols, systems of work and policies.

Under the direction of a Maxillofacial Consultant Surgeon, the post holder will participate in operative procedures and aspects of pre, peri and post operative care. 3.2 Maintain and enhance personal and professional knowledge and skills in all areas of responsibility by the attendance of in service and departmental meetings the attendance of national conferences where possible and to read the current professional literature and journals.

A Vacancy at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.


This post supports the breast and urological MDT’s at New Cross Hospital Wolverhampton and Russell’s Hall Hospital, Dudley

The post holder will see approximately 100 new Breast and 100 urological patients a year. Secretarial support, designated office space and appropriate IT equipment will be provided.

The post will be based at the New Cross Hospital and the patients will be seen in clinics at New Cross Hospital and will be treated at New Cross Hospital for radiotherapy and systemic treatments.

The successful candidate will be expected to work with professional colleagues and local managers to provide an Oncology service to Wolverhampton and Russells Hall hospitals. The principal duties of the post will include:

Provision of a Clinical Oncology service for breast and urological cancers for Wolverhampton and Russells Hall Hospital;
• Participation departmental meetings
• Participation in the multidisciplinary team meetings relevant to the post

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional candidate to join the Trust as the Head of Contracting. Digital Learning Creation & Maintenance
• Develop and create high quality digital and blended learning solutions for the ultimate end-userexperience.
• Work creatively and collaboratively with key stakeholders on the design, development and creation of engaging and innovative digital learning, providing technical advice on eLearning design solutions, development processes and content.
• Work closely with Subject Mater Experts (SMEs) to understand learning needs, adapt material for digital delivery and create content that aligns with learning aims.
• Design, build and deliver engaging learning experiences through a range of channels e.g. eLearning, videos, animations, micro games, simulations and apps.
• Use Articulate, Adobe Creative Cloud, Premiere and other creation/editing tools.
• Assist in the testing and Quality Assurance of digital learning courses and ensure high standards of accessibility.
• Work collaboratively with other teams on new technology projects e.g. AR/VR/immersive technology.
• Provide support on integrating and managing courses on the Trust Learning Management System
(Totara LMS).
• Update and maintain current learning on LMS.
• Support on the evaluation of digital learning effectiveness
• Support on the maintenance of the Education and Training intranet/internet sites.
• Supports digital learning working practices and policies, making recommendations on service development.

• Ordering of digital content and artwork for digital learning projects.
• Provide digital learning training and on-line support to the Trust.

The post holder will support the Group Specialist Head of Health & Safety in all duties relating to health and safety across the Trust.

The purpose of this role is to ensure that the Trust has a managed and coordinated approach to theimplementation of health and safety legislation providing a safe environment for staff, patients, visitors and any users of RWHT sites.

To actively contribute to directorate continuous quality improvement and assurance activities, through theimplementation of health and safety policies and procedures to support the Trust with achieving compliance with national external accreditation standards e.g. Care Quality Commission and the Health and Safety Executive.

Under the terms of Regulation 7 of the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 to support ensuring organisational compliance with statutory duties to ensure the organisation is not at risk of enforcement via regulatory agencies (i.e. HSE), by assisting, facilitating and supporting the Group Specialist Head of Health & Safety and to by providing guidance to directorates in all elements of health and safety.

Work closely with Trust staff at all levels to ensure that Health & Safety issues are effectively managed, and to promote Health and Safety as an integral part of good management practice.

Participate in relevant Trust meetings and Groups, providing advice as appropriate and leading or supporting any initiatives resulting from the work of those meetings.

Support the Group Specialist for Health & Safety in implementing a robust Trust Health & Safety management system that underpins the Trust assurance arrangements and meets external HSE requirements.

Respond to day-to-day Health and Safety issues and escalate significant issues and action taken as appropriate.

Design, deliver, evaluate and keep under review a full range of Health and Safety training programmes as directed by the Group Specialist Head of Health & Safety.

To work independently to provide specialist technical information and advice on all areas of risk to compliance with health and safety law and practice.

1. Provide a professional service to wards/departments for health and safety requirements to be assessed, monitored and reviewed across all areas ofrisk eg Display Screen Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment, PUWER, Moving & Handling etc.

2. Perform in the capacity of dedicated health and safety competent person by receiving and responding to queries that may arise via teams and services within the respective directorate(s) ensuring that these are recorded, dealt with effectively or if necessary escalated through the management structure within the service and within Estate Regulation.

3. Formulate and co-ordinate the undertaking of formal inspections and assessments of workplaces within the respective directorate(s) applying his/her professional and technical skills to identify any non-compliance and remedial actions required to satisfy health and safety law.

4. Record and documentfullyall inspections & assessments (including all electronic records)for findings and identified actions to be shared with responsible managers.

5. The postholder will work in conjunction with the Group Specialist Head of Health and Safety by undertaking health and safety audits. Audit findings will be considered jointly, and a formal report of findings will be prepared along with a corresponding action plan for making good specific items and shared with the directorate management team.

6. Under direction from the Group Specialist Head of Health and Safety to assist the directorates with the reporting and monitoring of actions resulting from Health and Safety incidents/risk management activity

7. In conjunction with the Compliance Unit to assist the Directorates with the identification and collation of relevant evidence for all areas of compliance including CQC etc.

8. Assist theGSHoHSin the production of a formal report on audit outcomes which will be reported to the Health and Safety Steering Group (HSSG).

9. Produce and present reports to HSOG/HSSG on their portfolio’s performance.

10. Maintain and produce documentation for inclusion on the Trust intranet in respect of health and safety information, resources and publicity.

11. Assist the respective directorate(s) in achieving their statutory obligations via provision of training/briefings on health and safety, new systems of work, changes in operational practice and where required provide support to the trust Fire and Security officers with regard to risk assessment, local practice and monitoring of training provision for Conflict Resolution, Fire Awareness/Evacuation Equipment/Incident Officer etc

12. To be responsible for compiling/preparing training content. The delivery of such training (i.e. core specialist health and safety training). This will form a significant part of the role, complemented by excellent record keeping, ongoing availability of information and other related instruction and reporting.

13. Support the management team in the development and implementation of new and improved safer working practices that have been identified by the risk assessment and/or incident reporting process.

14. Provide support to respective directorate(s) for RIDDOR reportable incidents providing advice and guidance on the undertaking appropriate investigations and preparing formal reports based on investigative findings. The post holder will be responsible for reporting of RIDDOR incidents to theGSHoHSafter appropriate internal sign off.

15. The postholder will review the trends of health and safety incidents and follow up of these including sharps, slips, trips and falls, manual handling etc., to ensure they are appropriately managed.

16. Continually reinforce best practice on health, safety & wellbeing in accordance with Estate Regulation policies, procedures & team objectives that are driven by organisational challenges and statutory requirements.

17. Negotiate with line managers & departmental safety leads/representatives on new/revised working practices in clinical and non clinical departments in respect of reorganisation of work areas to improve matters of health, safety and welfare – all in accordance with knowledge and understanding of statutory requirements.

18. Be responsible for enhancing and improving the safety culture by undertaking projects, organising events and evaluating health and safety measures within the respective directorate(s).

19. To work effectively with Divisional Governance officers to ensure that health and safety risks, compliance and monitoring is liaised and linked in with local risk management processes and controls.

20. Prepare briefing notes, health and safety presentations and where necessary attend management team meetings to report health and safety performance. Routinely attend Health and safety Steering Group Meetings and visit departments to briefstaff on health and safety matters and inspect practice and arrangements in place.

21. Attend Directorate/Divisional Governance meetings as required.

22. Administer and support the Divisional Health and Safety meetings in a timely manner.

23. Coordinate and administrate the health and safety rep/officers forums.

24. Monitor directorates’ mandatory health and safety training compliance and inform managers of areas of concern.

Would you like to learn advanced clinical skills in IBD?

The post holder will be required to undertake a leading role in a major research project in the areas of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Bile Acid Diarrhoea and Colorectal Cancer. The role will be supported by the Royal Wolverhampton Gastroenterology Academic Unit led by Professor Matt Brookes and Professor Helen Steed. They will receive supervision from Dr Phil Harvey and Dr Aditi Kumar. The research project will be tailored to the interest of the successful applicant, but will entail a combination of project design, experimental work, data analysis and reporting the results in peer-reviewed journals.Collaboration with other academic teams in the UK along with the pharmaceutical industry is likely. As part of a clinical gastroenterology unit, a close interaction with clinician’s guarantees good exposure to clinical experience as part of a wider clinical unit.

This post offers an excellent opportunity to enhance research skills and clinical experience in a busy and innovative unit. Clinical service and development opportunities will be tailored to the needs of the successful candidate but is expected to focus on developing advanced skills in IBD. Opportunities include endoscopy training, Dye spray, capsule endoscopy and IBD clinics such as routine follow-up, joint obstetric and joint surgical clinics. Our unit is also a JAG Accredited National Training Centre for Endoscopy running around 30 training courses annually and is also a tertiary referral centre for complex endoscopic procedures. There is no on call work associated with this post.
