We’re recruiting an IMI Level 3 qualified mechanic at Cardiff Workshop on a Permanent contract, with the potential to earn over £50,000 per annum including overtime.

Working Hours: Full time
- 39.5 hours per week (rotating shift pattern; week 1: 06:00
- 14:30, week 2: 07:00
- 15:30 and week 3: 13:30
- 22:00). You will be required to work 1 in 3 Saturdays (with a weekday day off)

A bit about the role

With a Fleet of over 49,000 vehicles, including traditional fuel and electric vehicles, LCVs and HGVs, maintaining our vehicles is a true team effort. We’re investing in modernising our fleet, giving you the opportunity to work on a variety of makes and models. There’s never been a better time to join Royal Mail as a Vehicle Technician.

- You’ll perform a full range of inspections, diagnostic, maintenance, and repair procedures on a range of vehicles, trailers, and mechanical equipment.
- You’ll use your own personal toolkit to undertake routine maintenance and repair light / heavy goods vehicles.
- You’ll also have access to specialist tooling and shared equipment in our modern, fully equipped workshops.
A bit about you

- Qualified mechanic: you’re fully qualified to an advanced level (IMI Level 3 in Light or Heavy vehicle or equivalent). You’ve got your own toolkit for standard repairs.
- Varied vehicle experience: Proven Vehicle Technician experience working on a wide range of vehicles, for example LCV / HGV.
- Valid UK driving licence: You hold a full manual UK driving licence.
- High working standards: you take pride in your work and do what is necessary to make sure the job is done effectively.
- Flexible to service demands: you’re able to work on a flexible shift rota. You’re always willing to support your team where necessary.

As the face of Royal Mail you will work various hours across a 24 hour 7 day period as part of a team ensuring we continue to deliver the high standards of service our customers expect.

About the Role

As a member of our driving team, you will be the public face of Royal Mail and an established part of the community. Much of your day will be spent driving, you will be collecting bulk mail from major customer, Post Offices and transporting mail between our Mail Centres and Delivery offices at prearranged times. Part of the role will be loading and unloading your van and sorting it into correct onward distribution.

About You

Upbeat and self-motivated, you’ll be as happy working alone as you will be working as part of a team and getting to know the different people on your round. You’ll have a strong sense of community and the idea of doing a job that involves flexible shift patterns will appeal. We deliver mail come rain or shine, so we’re looking for people who like being outdoors whatever the weather, and because there is walking involved in every round, you’ll also be someone who likes the idea of doing a job that will help you keep fit. Some experience in a customer facing role would be ideal.

Driving Licence Requirements

A full UK manual driving licence (in your current UK address), having less than 6 penalty points is essential but ideally a clean licence is preferred, please note you will be required to show this at assessment. You must have obtained your Periodic Driver Certificate of Professional Competence qualification (CPC) and hold a valid Drivers Qualification Card (DQC) with 35 hours training to be eligible to apply and will need to be able to present your Digital Tachograph Card, if selected for assessment.

You will be paid weekly, increments at 6 months and 12 months are subject to satisfactory performance.

£590.78 per week pro rata

We are looking to offer Permanent contracts. Part time, 25 hours per week. Shift patterns will vary across a 24 hour/7 day a week operation with early, day, evening and night shifts avaliable, more information will be avaliable at the interview.
