We are seeking to recruit an external affairs officer to join our external affairs team at one of the leading not-for-profit social housing and regeneration organisations, owning or managing over 76,000 homes across the country.

You’ll be joining a high-performing and politically engaged external affairs team that sits at the centre of the organisation in the chief executive’s department. The role will play a crucial part of the organisation’s influencing and public affairs strategy, by tackling some of the biggest issues facing housing associations at a vital and exciting time for the sector with a new Government in place. You will be instrumental in driving forward our public affairs work by building strong relationships with key stakeholders, creating compelling thought-leadership pieces and enhancing our reputation, placing Riverside as one of the strongest and most respected voices in the sector.

You’ll have the freedom and backing of your team to make this role your own, from influencing activities to media relations and everything in between, you’ll have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of the social housing and homelessness sectors and help shape Government policy to transform lives.

About you

• You will deliver the organisation’s public affairs strategy and optimise influencing opportunities which enhance the reputation of Riverside with its customers and stakeholders.
• Support the execution of a public affairs strategy with the support of the rest of the external affairs team, which will help the Group deliver its corporate objectives which are focused on transforming the lives of hundreds of thousands of people across the country.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of policy developments in the housing and care sectors at a national level in England and Scotland, support our influencing work with national Government, regional authorities and local authorities.
• Work with colleagues and the external affairs team to establish clear ‘positions’ on key policy areas, so that Riverside can establish messages for external and internal audiences, responding to political events such as general elections/local elections and devising appropriate public affairs responses.

Role Profile

• Deliver end to end management of empty homes, from the point that notice is received (or handover date is received), to the creation of the new tenancy on the housing management system. Work collaboratively with colleagues in Asset Services and Housing Services to ensure that properties are let as quickly as possible, to the required standard.
• Manage notice periods, advising customers of their responsibilities, securing a forwarding address and making arrangements for any arrears to be paid, making arrangements for notice inspections and viewings.
• Manage customer housing applications where Choice-Based Lettings (CBL) and Common Housing Register (CHR) partnership delegate this responsibility to housing providers.
• Advertise and allocate properties in line with lettings policies and strategies, using CBL and CHR partnerships, local nomination arrangements and online advertising as appropriate, ensuring that photographs and information provided about the property are an acceptable quality.
• Carry out appropriate pre-tenancy checks, including an income and expenditure check, to support customers to ensure that they are able to afford the property and referring on for specialist support as appropriate. Take initial rent payments in line with our 'Rent when due' approach and agree and set up payment plans. Support with on-boarding new customers through the Digital Tenancy Sign Up portal.
• Make appointments as necessary for viewings, sign ups, turn on and tests, liaising with colleagues in other teams.
• Maintain accurate customer records, preparing sign up documentation and creating tenancies in the housing management system, and accurate void management records to ensure that reporting is correct, up to date and reliable. Complete and upload the CORE form for all lettings.

The difference you will make as Building Safety Coordinator

In this role you will support the building safety manager by co-ordinating resolution of inspection outcomes and administering compliance systems and maintenance and services contracts, to ensure adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements, ensuring any risks identified and recommendations are actioned appropriately, raising referrals through to tenancy support to address breaches shared spaces sterile policy and raising works orders through to our external suppliers.

Acting as an initial point of contact both on the phone and in the reception area, you will always ensure a professional and supportive approach is maintained, whilst working as part of a team to provide ‘best practice’.

The difference you will make as a Senior Technical Coordinator

You will Lead, manage, motivate, and engage the Technical Coordinators to ensure the delivery of a high-quality service, developing and implementing operational objectives. In addition to the Line Management of Technical Coordinators, you will provide support in the provision of comprehensive administrative and coordination activities for a range of complex repair projects, ensuring protocols and financial processes are adhered to and recorded. Activity will include scheduling of appointments, liaising with contractors, compiling, and evaluating disclosure documents.

The difference you will make as a Service Charge

You will be responsible for the accurate calculation, construction and issue of all services charges, including both annual revenue charges and major works charges for properties. Be responsible for the accurate calculation and issue of all rents in the housing portfolio work as required with other departments to achieve this.

About you

We are looking for someone who

• Experience in dealing with service charge and rent setting.
• Experience in dealing with variable service charges.
• Experience and knowledge in legislation and regulations.
• Knowledge of property management and experience of calculating and issuing property charges, including services and rents.

• Very good IT skills generally and specifically in relation to Excel.

In this role you will support the delivery of the Care & Support Strategy and Corporate Plan objectives by developing and delivering projects in collaboration with colleagues. Ideally in this role you will develop an effective network of key stakeholders internally and externally to ensure projects are supported appropriately including key partners such as business transformation, business information and digital business, also in this role you keep up to date with legislation, regulatory, policy and funding changes in housing, care, and support, analysing risks, trends and opportunities and providing recommendations for changes to strategic direction ensuring resultant changes are widely communicated internally.

• Good understanding of the social housing sector and/or homelessness/care/mental health.

You will monitor the delivery of the Mechanical and Electrical Systems function including the management of relevant contracts, ensuring full compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements, including the implementation of an effective risk management approach to compliance within the Group.

• In depth knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical Systems within Social Housing, including government and industry guidance, British standards and building regulations, IEE Wiring Regulations Guidance Note 3 and The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998.

The difference you will make as a Case Management Team Leader

As a Case Management Team Leader, you will assist the Repairs Manager to develop a robust case management service for legal disrepair, ensuring legal compliance, customer satisfaction and achievement of our obligations and that claims are dealt with effectively to reduce the Group’s financial liability.

You will lead the Case Management Officers in managing all customer and colleague enquiries around complex repairs, legal and non-legal disrepair cases, complaints, and alternative dispute resolution. To include liaison with internal and external stakeholders, managing the customer experience and any support function associated within Case Management responsibilities.

About you

We are looking for someone who has:

• Experience of managing a team within a Repairs or Customer Service environment dealing with Disrepair legal matters, complex enquiries, complaints, and Case Management to dispute resolution.
• Extensive experience in the housing sector, ideally working within a customer focused Asset Management team.
• Are results driven and commercially aware with a focus on continuous improvement and the ability to drive change
