Our client is a UK/ US MNC dealing with R&D and manufacturing of Confectioneries. They are seeking an experienced Analytical Scientist (7 months contract)
Purpose:
- Analytical is customer focused, science led and results driven.
- The role at Global Analytical Scientist is to undertake Biscuit Category project partnership role with practical work within the Analytical function. Play a key role in ensuring that projects are performed effectively and accurately within agreed timescales and with appropriate quality standards. This role focuses on ensuring the right GA approach is incorporated in Category projects as well as routine and investigative analyses of products and method development and validations using locally available techniques internally within GA lab or via establishing 3rdparty capabilities as applicable. Examples include Moisture, Stack Height, SRC, Salt, Particle Size, DSC, TGA, Thermal Analysis (basic analysis), Hunter Lab, Viscometers, Texture analyser and its fundamentals, Powder characterization tools. Supervise and train junior members of the team or Product developers for walk ups as required. Client contact and administrative support for laboratory management. The role will partner the Biscuit and Baked Goods Category in delivering delightful products to consumers.
Responsibilities:
- In summary, the position plans and executes experiments and assigns projects or functional expert services. Delivers results, interpretation and technical reports. Applies fundamental understanding to analysis of results or assessment of compliance. Implements corrective measures when necessary.
- At the organizational level, the position develops strong relationships within function and cross-functionally. Acts as a technological resource or as an expert in own technical / scientific area. Issues research reports and specifications and/or conducts/leads project reviews.
- Technical Approach
- Provide high quality customer partnership at all times by ensuring effective organization of assigned workload, integrity of analytical data generated and timely/accurate provision of results.
- Perform a range of routine and investigative analysis using available analytical techniques independently and provide interpretation of results generated as required.
- Perform method development, transfers and design validation protocols with support.
- Responsible for the maintenance of analytical systems including checking and approving supplier’s reports (qualifications, repairs and preventive reports).
- Assist with technical aspects for client proposals for method development, transfers and validation protocols.
- Be proficient at setting up reports and troubleshooting.
- Provide training and supervise technicians/analysts in routine activities and methods, including support to people from other areas (Product developers, Quality, ISC)
- Be user of available specific softwares and proficient in the use of generic and specific 1. software packages required for the role, as examples: Minitab for data treatment, Goldfire.
- Use Statistical tools to support projects (sampling, correlation and regression, repeatability, reproducibility).
- Assign housekeeping tasks as required.
- Develop experience on manufacturing process involved in the daily routine.
- Work through the needs established for the category/function through planning discussions with cross functional teams. Align priorities, resource management, propose appropriate approach to meet the business needs and alternative solutions to technical challenges. Deliver against needs identified
- Plan parallel projects support with some guidance.
- Collaborate regionally with Analytical Sciences by ensuring knowledge management, establishing technical network within and outside of the Category/Function and sharing projects regionally.
- Communication & Influence
- Work as part of an efficient Regional Analytical team.
- To liase with clients, business development and line management to ensure effective communication of project proposals and results.
- Participate in client and stakeholders meetings as required.
- Deliver internal technical presentations across groups and to technical stakeholders and functional leadership.
- Leadership and supervision
1. Plan own workload and ensure resources
allocation in appropriate projects.
2. Train junior members of the team as required.
- Work to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring that appropriate COSHHs, risk assessments and SOPs are understood and followed.
- Complete assigned quality actions on a timely manner, including review and approval.
- Assist with the documentation of SOPs for simple equipment and Test Methods.
- Generation of Risk Assessments and COSHH.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
- Understand and work to the requirements of GMP/GLP.
- Ensure training records are captured accurately.
Requirement:
- Degree / Masters / Phd in Science
- Good understanding of basic/specific lab equipment.
- Scientific understanding and ability to independently conduct chemical and physical analysis in relevant area.
- Experience of working with Analytical or technically related area (minimum of 2 years).
- Project management in Analytical or related area
