Clinical: The post will include the responsibility and supervision of children (both in-patient, day case and out-patient) with leukaemia, solid tumours and adolescents with malignancies. The postholder will gain experience in the management of patients with: Children teenagers and adolescents with extracranial solid tumours Teenagers and adolescents with extracranial solid tumours Young people with brain tumours Young People leading up to and following Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation and Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cell therapy The care of children receiving conditioning and delivery of stem cell transplantation. The post holder will gain experience in the clinical management of young people with a comprehensive range malignancies and haematological disorders. Administrative: The post holder will be involved in the administration of the Paediatric Oncology Unit. He/she will be responsible for ensuring the documentation of all patients on the Unit, and the discharge summaries, are kept up to date. He/she will supervise the junior staff to ensure this. The postholder will be responsible with other junior colleagues for the administration of out of hours cover for the paediatric oncology unit. To act as an intermediary between the bereaved and clinicians to establish and resolve any concerns relating to a patients death. Work with medical examiners to aid them in their responsibility for overseeing the death certification process for all deceased patients in the organisation. To establish the circumstances of individual patient deaths by performing a preliminary review of medical records to identify clinical and circumstantial information, sourcing additional details where required, for scrutiny by the medical examiner. To assist in highlighting cases for assessment by the Structured Judgement Review team (SJR), Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP), Clinical Governance teams and the Learning Disability Review Teams (LeDeR). To refer patients to the coroner for further investigation on approval by the medical examiner Maintain an awareness of the diverse needs of users of the medical examiner system to ensure equality to any particular group defined by sex, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender reassignment or disability. Discuss proposed causes of death with the qualified attending practitioner and advise about coroner referral. To have a good understanding of medical records and disease pathology.
