Main Duties Lead nursing input into the project. Work as a registered Nurse within the Trust as and when suitable for the project. Manage own workload in order to support the clinical information needs that enable the Trust to achieve goals described in the Medicines Optimisation strategy. Act as the Trust appointed Lead Nurse for the ePMA project. Advocate on behalf of and represent the project at relevant nursing meetings. Provide training to clinical end users as the ePMA systems is prepared to go live in their areas. Enable clinical end users to adopt ePMA into agreed work flows by providing go live support. Maintain the ePMA system providing nursing input throughout the life of the system. Provide specialist support for the system out of hours to Consultants and their Teams, Nursing staff, Midwifery staff, Pharmacy staff and health professionals where appropriate. Be flexible and reliable, particularly during system implementation phases when training and supporting staff (working hours will include late shifts, night duties and weekends). To ensure requirements are considered and include the needs of all clinical professionals, work closely with Nurses, Midwives, Doctors, HCAs and AHPs to gather and understand their and the patients needs. Lead nursing input into the implementation and roll-out of the ePMA project across the Trust, under the guidance of the Lead Pharmacist and relevant Project Boards. Enable better and more efficient care through the development of future state process by understanding the ePMA system and existing paper based workflows. Propose options and provide expert recommendations pertaining to implementation of the ePMA system by assessing and judging complex facts, processes and protocols. Demonstrate individual system expertise in order to be capable of supporting the configuration and testing of the ePMA system and including but not limited to other systems within the remit of the Clinical Systems Team. Analyse, interpret and compare system functionalities and working process options in order to determine the best fit for system implementation. Regularly provide ePMA system training to Nurses, Midwives, Doctors, Healthcare Assistants and Allied Health Professionals. Supervise colleagues and receiving and undertaking training and testing to ensure quality related quotas and deadlines are met adequately. Participate in the development and planning of relevant ePMA user training programmes. Provide clinical expertise, skills and agility to systematically address the effectiveness of care through the transformation of services, which will ultimately improve patient care and experience. Undertake service improvement whilst working in Wards, Departments and Community Teams as required to support individual Nurses, Midwives, Doctors, Healthcare Assistants and Allied Health Professionals. To undertake other duties commensurate with this grade of post in agreement with the relevant line manager. To minimise the Trusts environmental impact wherever possible, including recycling, switching off lights, computers, monitors and equipment when not in use. Helping to reduce paper waste by minimising printing/copying and reducing water usage, reporting faults and heating/cooling concerns promptly and minimising travel. The Trust has a longstanding PCI programme and has undertaken coronary intervention with off-site surgical support from neighbouring cardiac surgical facilities for over 2 decades. A primary angioplasty service for acute myocardial infarction was established in the early 2000s, with 24 hours, 7 day service running since January 2005. There is a full Emergency department at the new Midlands Metropolitan Hospital. Bradycardia pacing has been carried out on the Trust sites for over 30 years and biventricular pacing (CRT) and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation since 2006. We now have a dedicated subcutaneous ICD service run by Dr Shah and Dr Maher There are well-developed cardiac imaging services (CMR, echocardiography, stress echo and CTCA) at both City and Sandwell Hospitals and an established Heart Failure Service with strong links over both Sandwell and City campuses. With the demonstration of the great benefits of the specialist nursing service in Sandwell in avoiding excess hospital appointments and readmissions, the local Sandwell and West Birmingham CCG have recently funded 9 new specialist nurse posts to develop an equally good service in West Birmingham, as well as to deliver out-of-hospital intravenous diuretics and 7 day working, in addition to the current 6 hospital-based and 6 community-based specialist nurses. Rapid-access, one-stop clinic appointments are offered, with consultation, ECG and echocardiography on the same visit, to improve case identification. Research is carried out into a number of aspects of heart failure. The single-site Acute Hospital (MMUH) benefits from co-located specialist services which will support the new Emergency Department with dedicated imaging facility and Assessment Units. It provides state-of-the-art treatment and care for patients from Sandwell and across the region and will become the civic heart of the area and a point of pride for the community. The working week for a full-time consultant is comprised of 10 programmed activities (PAs) each of which has a nominal timetable value of 4 hours with 2.0 PAs for SPAs. Programmed activities that take place outside the hours of 7am and 7pm Monday and Friday or at weekends or on public holidays will have a timetable value of three hours rather than four. For this post direct clinical care (work relating directly to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of illness) includes a minimum of 1 fixed pacing cardiac catheter laboratory session per week, emergency work (including whilst on-call), outpatient activities (minimum of 2 clinics per week), multi-disciplinary meetings about direct patient care, and administration directly related to the above. Supporting professional activities (that underpin direct clinical care), include participation in training, medical education, continuous professional development, formal teaching, audit, clinical management and local clinical governance activities.
