The goal of Upward Bound is to prepare students to excel in high school and gain admission to college. Services include tutoring, advising, assistance with the college/financial aid application process, community service, leadership and internship opportunities, college visits and a residential summer program. Upward Bound is a federally-funded college preparatory program that serves low-income high school students from families in which neither parent has earned a Bachelor’s degree. The LMU Upward Bound Programs serve approximately 120 students from Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnets (WESM) and Inglewood High School (IHS).
POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Has primary responsibility for college advising for Program seniors.
- Provides general guidance to the Upward Bound Academic Advisors for all academic advising.
- Manages the residential component of the summer program including the hiring, training and supervision of the summer residential staff. (Is required to be in residence during portions of the residential summer program.)
- Assists with the planning and implementation of all program activities including Saturday Academy, college tours, field trips and other enrichment activities.
- Serves as a secondary liaison to target schools (working with high school faculty, counselors, and administrators).
- Supervises the Graduate Assistant and has ultimate supervisory responsibility for tutors.
- Is responsible for maintaining contact with and tracking Project alums for federal reporting. Also, develops services and activities for alums to ensure college success and continued engagement with Upward Bound.
- Represents the Projects at local and regional professional organizations, and serves on LMU committees.
- Gathers data for university and federal reports including the Annual Performance Report and grant proposal. Assists with the writing of grant proposals.
- Enters, manages, and maintains student data in designated database application.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Typically a Master's degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field is required, plus a minimum of 5 years work experience developing and delivering educational support services to disadvantaged students, preferably with an educational equity or Trio program. Teaching experience desirable.
- Strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal, supervisorial, oral and written communication skill, and the ability to establish rapport with high school personnel, students, families, university staff, and community members is required.
- Experience overcoming barriers similar to those of TRIO students is desirable.
- Experience in residential supervision of high school or college students desirable.
- Teaching and grant writing experience desirable.
- Ability to organize and plan complex projects, interpret and apply program rules, gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
- Knowledge of Upward Bound and other educational equity programs required.
- Knowledge of college and financial aid applications is required.
- Experience in residential supervision of high school or college students desired.

$66,560.00 - $75,200.00 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
