DUTIES:

1. Reviews, analyzes and evaluates any aspect of retirement cases to ascertain the proper law, rule or regulation applicable (10 U.S.C., Sections 8911 and 8914 for active duty, Section 12731 for Reserve retirements including reduced retired pay age eligibility and issuance of the legally binding written notification of eligibility for Reserve retired pay, and Section 12741 for choice/conversion between active duty and Reserve retirements, DoD Instructions, Air Force Instructions and the Joint Travel Regulation) and required course(s) of action based on nature of the case.
2. Provides advisory, technical assistance, procedural guidance, and recommendations regarding retirement applications and inquiries.
3. Applies in-depth knowledge and understanding to use, manipulate, and apply various functions of the Military Personnel Data System (MilPDS) and Defense Finance and Accounting Service-Cleveland (DFAS-CL) pay system in order to input transactions and analyze output products used to control, assess, evaluate, track, approve/disapprove, and communicate transaction status information as relates to the total retirement process.
4. Maintains a database as required for all retirements and case files of other processes pertaining to retirements that require processing beyond those approvable without intervention in software systems, such as, but not limited to, cases forwarded to the various offices within SAF, as requiring waiver or exceptions to policy, cases of personnel placed on medical or admin hold, and cases of nonstandard or unusual situations.

• Teaches students in graduate courses, including the associated duties of enforcing classroom standards, preparing course materials according to published course descriptions, and providing extra instruction outside of normal class hours for students who require it.
• Teaching includes all activities by a faculty member within the formal academic degree programs of the Institute. Teaching contributes to the efforts of students to acquire intellectual skills, to extend knowledge and understanding, or to develop attitudes and habits that foster continuing growth.
• The diversity of teaching activities includes classroom lectures, laboratory and project course supervision and teaching, program and course development, development of pedagogical materials, supervision of doctoral and master's students, and related activities outside the classroom.
• Provides well-organized instruction to facilitate, assess, and continuously improve student learning. Counsels and evaluates assigned students, providing student assessment and motivation.
• Initiates and conducts a program of research in the field of specialization, which contributes to the body of knowledge. Pursues professional development through membership in professional societies and participation in conferences or other appropriate activities to maintain professional and academic currency in area of specialization.
• Research is defined as inquiry undertaken to establish facts, develop principles, or illuminate or answer questions within an area of intellectual pursuit through the systematic collection of evidence that can be subjected to replication, verification, or critical evaluation by persons other than the original researcher.

Performs the following faculty duties in the Department of Engineering Physics, Graduate School of Engineering and Management, Air Force Institute of Technology:

Teaching

1. Applies an extensive body of human resources (HR) rules, procedures, and operations sufficient to provide unit personnel support services.
2. Uses guidelines that have gaps in specificity and are not applicable to all work situations to manage, prepare, and maintain documentation concerning reservists' participation.
3. Assists in planning and monitoring manpower resource requirements and ensuring systems are synchronized.
4. Serves as the organizational point of contact and liaison with the force support flight/squadron on military and civilian personnel issues.

• Teaches graduate-level courses in aerospace engineering in the areas of Spacecraft Attitude Controls, Spacecraft Design, Astronautics, or areas related to Space Warfighting, which form parts of accredited masters and doctoral degree programs, as well as parts of professional continuing education programs.
• Teaching includes all activities by a faculty member within the formal academic degree programs of the Institute. Teaching contributes to the efforts of students to acquire intellectual skills, to extend knowledge and understanding, or to develop attitudes and habits that foster continuing growth.

• Is the sole AF functional expert responsible for creating service histories in the Point Credit Accounting and Reporting System (PCARS) for new members of the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, which establishes the definitive service date for which all critical career lifecycle eligibility such as accessions, promotions, training, and retirement are based
• Responsible for analyzing, researching, compiling, creating and updating participation records in PCARS for Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve members
• Responds to Air Force, DoD, Congressional and other high level inquiries

• Analyzes and interprets laws, DoDIs, AFIs, and higher headquarters guidance to implement and manage Air Force Reserve Accession processes and procedures to meet resource requirements for current and emerging Reserve missions.
• Provides Reserve Accession authoritative advisories, technical assistance, procedural guidance, and recommendations regarding Reserve Accessions; responds to Air Force, DoD, Congressional and other high level inquiries.
