Performs a broad range of organization-specific responsibilities, including U.S. export facilitation, foreign direct investment promotion, trade promotion through trade-policy analysis, the resolution of trade barriers, and negotiations, and associated functions that address businesses, industries, and/or markets critical to U.S. business, investment, and trade priorities and objectives. Recommends positions on complex trade issues, policy positions, or negotiating strategies, and develops and disseminates trade information to U.S. businesses or associations. Writes clear and succinct briefing papers, memos, and other materials for senior government officials. Provides clears and concise verbal briefings on commercial and economic issues to senior government officials and business groups. Works with business groups and companies to resolve problems related to international trade and investment. Incumbents operate in a dynamic domestic and international business environment requiring dedicated effort to sustain expertise, to collaborate, and to maximize the benefits to all U.S. business interests.

The DOC's Global Markets Office of Asia (GM Asia) manages International Trade Administration (ITA) policy and programmatic work that expands U.S. jobs by promoting commerce across the Indo-Pacific Region with overall direction from the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asia. The Office of South Asia covers India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan.

As an International Trade Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

• Effective administration of the office and its functions, including coordinating strategic direction to Desk Officers on GM Asia's engagement with the U.S. interagency and officials from countries in their portfolio.
• Primary day-to-day responsibility for coordinating GM Asia and Department participation in key bilateral cooperation mechanisms and providing ongoing direction to the Office of South Asia's Desk Officers responsible for each respective mechanism.
• On-boarding of all new Office of South Asia permanent staff, detailees, and interns in coordination with GM Asia Operations, ITA human resources and IT, and Department security offices.
• Other duties as assigned by the Office Director and GM Asia leadership.

• Assesses the impact of foreign government actions on the competitiveness of U.S.
  industries.
• Develops and carrys out programs and engagements to strengthen U.S. industry
  international competitiveness and improve the competitive position of U.S. industry in
  foreign markets.
• Analyzes the acquisition by foreign citizens of domestic industry assets for its impact
  on national security.
• Communicates program details through staff meetings, speaking engagements, internet content,reports, and briefing materials.
