Job Opening: Quality Engineer

Position Overview: The Quality Engineer (QE) role is responsible to pro-actively support development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Tellico quality management system to ensure a consistently high level of performance within the facility and market segments that we participate.  The scope of the role will include activities spanning supplier quality, internal process control, and customer feedback.  The Quality Engineer will be accountable to help drive continuous improvement through the facility by analyzing quality data, prioritizing opportunities and leading improvement activities throughout the entire operations.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Pro-actively facilitate the development of Quality Systems to provide consistent inspection and testing to meet company standards of good sound visual quality and functional reliability.
• This role will support both internal and external quality processes.
• Improve processes to reduce common cause variability and eliminate special cause by following Problem Solving techniques such as Six Sigma (DMAIC).
• Use of structured quality improvement tools including six sigma tools is required.
• Ensure appropriate collection of quality data, analyze the data for trends, identify corrective action opportunities, and drive corrective action activities.
• Interpret basic technical drawings including characteristics such as views, title blocks, dimensioning, tolerancing, etc. Interpret specification requirements in relation to product and process characteristics.
• Assist in the development, maintenance and reporting of quality measurements and analysis. Helps determine the adequacy and accuracy of quality standards. Where standards are not available, coordinates their development.
• Promote and ensure quality activities in manufacturing and support functions to assure that Quality Metrics improve.
• Facilitate and train employee groups on process improvement and waste elimination techniques.
• Lead teams in applying structured problem-solving methodology and tools to eliminate waste.
• Some common tools required to use are: Process Map, Pareto Chart, Trend Chart, Fishbone Diagram, 5-Why Analysis, Histogram, SPC, FMEA, 5S, Correlation Analysis, Error-proofing, and Control Plans.
• Investigate, analyze, and benchmark industry practices for process validation assessments.
• Accurately maintain company records and documents in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Actively support and lead our Corrective Action processes.
• Perform special assignments as required.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field required although consideration will be given to individuals with commensurate marine experience

• Must be willing to complete additional advanced education/training courses as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

• At least 3-5 years in a Quality or Manufacturing Engineering position required. Preferred time spent working in the marine industry.
• Hold a Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt or ability to acquire.
• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer certification (or equivalent) or ability to acquire.
• Must have working knowledge of CAR methodology, computer literate, root cause analysis, be able to apply inspection data for process control, process capability assessment, ISO quality systems, and SPC.
• Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio. Statistical software.
• Thorough knowledge of statistical process control, teaching skills, blueprint analysis, quality concepts, basic and advanced quality tools, and problem-solving techniques.
• Ability to lead, teach and motivate a team.
• Able to work a flexible work schedule when required.
• Organizational skills necessary to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to get along with diverse personalities while remaining tactful, professional, and flexible.
• Good written and oral communication to communicate with all levels of the organization.

In your role as an Endurance Boat Driver, you will be out on the water recording events throughout the day on how well Mercury Marine engines are performing. During the development of marine engines and products, durability and endurance testing must be performed to create test data that aids in validating the intended performance of the product. This role works a four day work week to give you a work/life balance as well.

What you will be doing in the role:

• Operate watercraft in accordance with engineering test procedures.

• Evaluate the total functionality of the propulsion system from a perspective of:

  • Performance

  • Noise, Vibration and Harshness

  • Driveability

  • Human/Machine Interface

  • Graphical User Interface

  • Ergonomic Interface

• Record technical observations in logs, and/or electronic data storage/collection systems as requested for our marine engines and related products.

• Maintenance of facility, grounds, and all test equipment including routine cleaning duties.

• Provide detailed and concise verbal and written communication.

• Perform all work in accordance with site safety policies and participate in safety meetings.

What you will bring to our winning team:

• Must be a self-starting, quick learning, and independent individual with a positive attitude and excellent work ethic.

• Ability to drive a multitude of boats at various, potentially high, speeds in varying and sometimes harsh Florida water/weather conditions for a sustained period of time.

• Must have a technical mind set and basic understanding of how internal combustion engines and marine propulsion systems work to be able to be "in tune" with the propulsion system being tested/monitored.

Summary of Position:

To provide all dealer and retail customers with technical/service support, assistance in service, service management, customer relations/satisfaction, warranty adjustment, product performance, and installation for all Mercury and Brunswick products. This position reports to a Regional Service Manager. This territory include: Southern Illinois, Southern Indiana, and Northern Kentucky

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Participate in a work group of elite field service engineers to represent Mercury and Brunswick brands.
• Travel your assigned territory to diagnose and resolve service-related product malfunctions while providing service management counseling, onsite training of Mercury/Brunswick systems and processes.
• Independent autonomous travel within your assigned territory and home office to complete and submit reports on field-related activities as necessary.
• Complete ongoing evaluations of all dealers and assist them with a business plan to upgrade their Mercury products, service and profitably to provide ultimate customer satisfaction.
• Communicate information to service, manufacturing, and quality engineering groups.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the RSM.
• Territory account management responsibilities for:
  • Prospecting and vetting dealer applications, terminations, and non-renewals.
  • Interacting with sales and credit departments.
  • Dealer service development focusing on CSI and NPS metrics.
  • Manage career development for dealer technicians while interacting with Mercury University to promote technician advancement.
  • Facilitate new service talent to the marine industry by promoting and supporting local trade schools and high school vocational programs.
  • Assist and advise OEMs of product configuration, training, installation, and integration as required.
  • Organize site visits to provide improved dealer and OEM support.
  • Provide in-field support to Mercury Legal department for product liability, product failure lawsuits, onsite inspections, depositions, and to participate as a witness.
  • Face-to-face interaction with consumers to resolve their product questions and issues.
  • Participate and assist the Marketing department with local, regional, national boat shows, tournaments, and special events as required.  Some international travel is required.
  • Assist Large Vessel Support specialist team on specialty products as required.
  • Participate in service training.  Secure and maintain Mercury University product certification within first year of employment.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:

• Thorough knowledge of Mercury products.
• Thorough knowledge of marine vessel systems, with a focus on electrical systems.
• Complete understanding of customer service philosophy and procedures of the company.

Engineering of office and large industrial mechanical support infrastructure including; HVAC, boiler, chiller, point source capture, natural gas, compressed air, water and sanitary systems.

Conceptual engineering, engineering design and analyses to support Project Engineers and Management on capital expenditure projects for large industrial systems including casting, finishing, machining, paint systems, engine and drive product assembly and testing.

Facility energy management including usage analysis, risk identification, ROI calculations, utility incentives and systems operation.

Summary of Position: This 3rd shift position works with the V6/V8/V10 outboard assembly product lines and reports to the Quality Engineering Manager.  The main role of this position will be to maintain quality assurance procedures, practices, and standard evaluation methods, that will ensure product quality and integrity, and will minimize process variation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work individually or collaboratively to reduce manufacturing process or product variation, using laboratory instruments and equipment, along with root cause corrective action methods
• Lead or assist in formal problem-solving projects including completion of corrective action requests
• Look up engineering drawings on computers, read and understand tolerances and key product features
• Perform basic dimensional inspections of parts utilizing calipers, micrometers, and other hand-held gauges
• Recommend design changes or improvements in production methods through FMEA or other methods as appropriate
• Work with engineers, technicians, and operators to assist with training as required
• Support manufacturing's non-conforming material process as required, and identify scrap reduction opportunities
• Organize and assist in resolving quality spills, including part sorts, containment activities, and creating quality alerts
• Create visual aids to support operator instructions
• Perform internal process, product, and ISO audits as directed, to ensure assembly conformance to requirements
• Contribute to deviations, FMEAs, and other quality documents in the quality management system
• Clearly communicate quality standards on the production line and in toolbox meetings
• Clearly communicate quality concerns immediately to managers, supervisors, process techs, and operators
• Document quality issues through shift notes and hand off meetings
• Commitment to health and safety (both in the office, laboratory, and in the plant)

• Performs elementary and routine mix and lay-up of composite materials, fiberglass, resins, and catalysts onto mold surface using various hand tools.
• Utilization of open mold and vacuum infusion processes.
• Works with various resins, gel-coats, fiberglass materials, foam, and structural adhesives.
• Installs wood and other components into fiberglass hulls, decks, and small part molds.
• Operates a variety of power tools including but not limited to saws, drills, grinders, and overhead hoists.
• Locates parts by hand or by utilizing detailed blueprints, work instructions, tools, and/or fixtures.
• Sanding of fiberglass hulls, decks, and small part molds.

Requirements

• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements include respirators, gloves, chemical resistance aprons, and chemical resistant suits.
• Ability to read a tape measure.
• Have the ability and desire to work in a hot and humid work environment especially in the Florida summer.
• Ability to work a 10+ hour shift standing, bending, reaching. As well as, climbing on and through stairs, molds, and staging throughout the duration of your shift.
• Moderate lifting ability up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work in a non-climate controlled environment.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, noisy environment
• Have the flexibility to work overtime both planned and unplanned to meet company goals.
• Must follow all safety standards and procedures; including chemical handling standards and Personal Protective Equipment
• Must adhere to all quality standards and adhere to new standards as processes evolve
• Must demonstrate record of dependability and reliability with prior work or professional experience
• Must demonstrate the ability to work well with teams professional or otherwise
• Understand and follow verbal and written directions

• Ability to read and understand blueprints
• Ability to use hand, battery, and pneumatic tools
• Ability to work in close proximity to co-workers and work in areas with limited space
• Skills in forklift, overhead hoist, computer, fiberglass and/or gel-coat applications preferred
• Ability to fluently speak, read, understand, and write English
• High school diploma or GED required

Shift: Must have the availability to work from 5:00 am – 3:30 pm Monday - Thursday.  Overtime is frequently required on Friday based on scheduling needs. Sea Ray reserves the right to adjust shifts and work times as business needs evolve.  An hourly premium shift differential is available for this position. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Cost Engineer

Summary of Position: A Cost Engineer develops analytical cost models while working closely with component engineers and provides program teams with the target cost of new product design or design change proposal. Review Supplier quotes and assist Buyers in negotiation. The successful candidate will:

• Provide guidance to Designers/Design Engineers for proposed new or modified designs to achieve required function at minimum cost.
• Apply DFA/DFM tools to analyze proposed new designs and propose potential improvements.
• Work with engineering on a Design to Target approach in early product development planning
• Develop cost targets for mechanical engine parts (Castings, Stamped parts, Extrusions, and injection molded) based on information ranging from sample parts, CAD models and engineering drawings.
• Develop cost targets for electrical engine parts (Harness, PCB, PCB assemblies, DC motors, Batteries) based on information ranging from schematics, CAD models and engineering drawings.
• Provide should cost analysis reports to procurement team for supplier negotiation purposes.
• Do competitive benchmarking/ teardown analysis and develop should cost models.
• Participate in VA/VE activities and generate cost reduction ideas on current production products.
• Present project cost updates along with risks and opportunities to higher management on monthly basis.

• Be a resource of cost information on assigned projects for the entire organization (upper management, marketing, sales, engineering, financial, manufacturing, etc). 
• Provide the organization with monthly cost reports and cost tracking of current product.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial or Electrical Engineering
• 3-5 years of industry experience
• Proficient in BDI (Boothroyd Dewhurst Inc), A-priori or a related costing software
• Ability to read and understand manufacturing drawings
• Working knowledge of a Bill of Material, its development and application.
• Practical knowledge of VA/VE techniques and strong financial awareness
• Functional understanding of 3D CAD software (Creo Preferred)
• Proficient in Microsoft office.
• Travel up to 10%

Preferred qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of Manufacturing processes (Casting, Stamping, Injection molding, extrusion, PCBA) and compatible materials.

Position Summary:

Responsible for the daily maintenance of all incoming calls to the main switchboard. Maintains and coordinates the daily functions and secretarial support across the entire office. Ensures the correct functioning of facilities, office and/or business support services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains office supplies inventory and orders supplies as needed in accordance with set supplies budgets.

• Responsible for annual renewal of business licenses and certificates
• Responsible for maintaining records retention database, purging all documents no longer within filing period and ensuring all departments are educated on proper way of storing and filing all types of records.
• Reconciles purchasing credit card account monthly.
• Sends monthly corporate credit card statements to the Mexico staff and once received send expense reports to FDL to process payment.
• Supports the unit’s HR Business Partner onboarding of new employees and other HR-related tasks when is necessary.
• Collect incoming mail from the mail kiosk every morning and distribute mail accordingly.
• Provide administrative support in day-to-day office operations.
• Provide secretarial/administrative support as needed to the other departments on selected administrative tasks
• Take care of all outgoing office mail related to communications using appropriate carriers
• Contact service providers as needed
• Scan all closed files along with their corresponding Acceptance of Responsibility letter into the Export Documentation Database and enter data into the Integration Point Export Doc system
• Create labels for completed order files; files RTL letters into binder and sends a copy by email to the freight

Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements:

• Verbal and written skills are necessary to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and with our customer network.
• Excellent organization and follow-up skills.
• Ability to pay close attention to detail.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Skills related to performing multifaceted tasks in conjunction with day-to-day activities.

Position Summary

Support engineering activities such as test system programing, software updates, test program backups, fabrication, modification, troubleshooting & repair. Responsible for quality assurance and documentation. Relies on a complete understanding of electronic theory, computer skills, schematics, drawings, specification, and other documentation from engineering along with pre-established guidelines to perform job functions. Works with minimal immediate supervision. Provide training and technical leadership for other employees troubleshooting, repair & rework activities.

Your responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Performs troubleshooting, failure analysis and test of assemblies using bench-top test equipment, custom test beds, and automated test systems in compliance with quality assurance policies and methodologies
• Provide test engineering floor support to production personnel, including the maintaining, troubleshooting and repair of test system software and hardware
• Train and support test operators on test equipment, materials and processes
• Provide troubleshooting guidance and technical leadership to rework technicians and operators
• Communicate problems to Test Engineers and/or production personnel as appropriate
• Participate in continuous improvement. Recommend improvements to product flow and throughput, work sequences, test processes and debug techniques. Document as required
• Monitors production processes and test systems to decrease no defects found (NDF’s)
• Assist engineering in test system fabrication
• Maintains a clean, safe, work environment and follow all published/posted safety standards
• This position normally requires exposure to manufacturing areas that require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses with side shields and safety shoes/boots

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements

• In-depth understands of electronic theory, both digital and analog
• Skills in computer integration, control and communication with test equipment, test system electronics, sensors, and input/output modules
• Working knowledge of programing, experience with the LabVIEW programing language a plus
• Proficient in test measurement and troubleshooting techniques on electronic assemblies/subassemblies in a manufacturing environment involving Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and EOL Test Systems
• Interpret, and comprehend schematics, mechanical drawing, data sheets, functional specifications, block diagrams, performance specifications, bill of materials (BOM) and engineering change orders (ECO)
• Demonstrates the ability to use a multimeter, programmable power supply, and digital oscilloscope
• Proficient in basic shop skills using hand and power tools
• Awareness of safety and environmental regulations
• Knowledge of quality standards and production techniques

Join our team as our Injection Mold Process Technician II in St. Cloud, Florida!  As an Injection Mold Process Technician II, you will be working as a team member in the Plastics Department in support of 3rd shift (10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.). 

Your responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Set up and changeover of molding machines
• Create molding parameters for newly introduced product
• Troubleshoot issues as they arise to determine the most effective manner of conforming to product quality and production requirements, to include improvement process
• Pick parts or run injection molding machines using inserts when needed
• Monitor cycle time and make necessary adjustments when needed

To be considered as a qualified candidate you must meet the following requirements:

• Minimum of a high school diploma or a GED
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a manufacturing environment processing injection molding machine(s)
• Extensive experience with injection molding materials and drying requirements for materials such as: ABS, Nylons, HDPE, PBT, PC, PEEK, POM, PP, PVC, and TPU
• Knowledge of hot runner systems, hot water temperature controllers, hot oil temperature controllers, robot setup and multiple action molds
• Understanding of scientific molding
• Basic working knowledge and understanding of hydraulic and electrically operated injection molding machines (Nissei and Toshiba)
• Knowledge and understanding of pneumatically operated machines and equipment
• Must be mechanically inclined, and an analytical thinker with exceptional problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills that require basic English language aptitude (verbal and written)
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and ability to stand for extended periods of time
• Read and interpret production prints and quality requirements
• Must operate powered industrial trucks and overhead crane systems
