The Opportunity
We have an opportunity to join our team in a critical role with profile to senior leaders and decision makers. Be in a position where your insights and recommendations will have direct impact on large scale commodity purchasing decisions and production strategy across the entire Coke and Iron business!
As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.
Our Coke and Iron business comprises of a BlueScope operated shipping berth (located within Port Kembla harbour) for the discharge of raw materials, several raw materials handling areas and large-scale production units (Sinter Plant, Coke Plant, Blast Furnace). These processes are integral to our operations and one of the first steps in creating quality steel and world class steel products.
This role is central to the movement of raw materials across our production units, working closely with key production unit stakeholders to make collaborative decisions on product movements and production schedules. You don’t need to be someone who has in depth knowledge of the steel making process, you’ll be mentored by an experienced and supportive team who are invested in seeing you succeed. What are we looking for in this role? Someone who is comfortable taking ownership of a process, with a willingness to learn and develop into a subject matter expert, being called upon by a diverse range of stakeholders at all levels of the organisation for expertise and specialist advice.
In our environment, the solution may not always be easily at hand, we may look to you to provide a way forward and as someone who enjoys identifying new opportunities and exploring creative solutions, you’ll find this both exciting and rewarding!

- Support commodities procurement and operations personnel with production forecasting, yield and inventory management including reporting
- identify and resolve any issues with plant logistics capabilities with the potential to impact production schedules
- play a key role in a raw materials inventory management, materials tracking, and production forecast systems upgrade project, working with stakeholders to develop and implement a standardised tool across the business
- investigate ways to optimise processes which may include reduction in working capital through data analysis and stakeholder engagement
- improve yield and production performance through enhancements and upgrading reporting systems
More About You
As someone who has a passion for understanding complex processes and relies on data to make quality decisions in a dynamic production environment you’ll bring:
- demonstrated depth and knowledge of managing inventory at high volume and high value in a manufacturing environment
- strong analytical skills and expert understanding of using various forms of data, including experience with relevant query and reporting tools
- a strong sense of accountability and commitment to getting the best outcome for our business and high flexibility to adapt to changing forecast needs
- a proactive approach to decision making – able to balance details with the big picture and ‘make a call’
