The role
Work across the organisation to support development of priority projects from concept through to delivery.
Manage development of asset management strategies and plans that incorporate maintenance and service levels and programs for forward planning of maintenance and capital works.
Manage development of recreation strategies and plans to ensure high quality facilities are provided for community and active recreation organisations.
Take custodianship of the Long-Term Capital works program, incorporating major projects and renewal of Council's assets.
Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of the systems, processes and projects which form the asset management system.
Project manage specified major projects and ensure projects are delivered within agreed time, scope and budget; and that project milestones and deliverables are met. Provide expert technical advice, project management expertise, and project support to other departments within the organisation as required.
Maintain a network of contacts, both across local government and other government departments and authorities to ensure currency of knowledge and awareness of new initiatives or potential changes that may impact on Council.
Work collaboratively internally with colleagues and departments, developing a partnership approach to leverage in-house knowledge and expertise in service delivery.
Develop the team into a cohesive unit that delivers effective project management and service delivery with a strong focus on collaboration, transparency and customer service both internal and external to the organization.
Lead, coach and manage staff in a way that fosters a collaborative and inclusive culture and supports learning, development and innovation.
Technical skills
Degree or diploma in Project Management and/or Civil and Municipal Engineering or related discipline with relevant experience plus post graduate qualification in another field OR less formal qualifications with extensive and diverse experience in Project Management.
This position requires problem solving abilities, at times without the guidance of Senior Leadership and various Leadership Team members on all issues relating to major project and service contracts, asset inspections, defect notices and customer requests. The position requires the incumbent to have demonstrated ability in driving initiatives forward through collaborative, problem-solving and garnering support from peers and the community along the way.
Strong people management skills, with the ability to coach, develop, support, empower and inspire staff.
Demonstrated ability to organise and plan workflow, set priorities and meet deadlines to address the position's key responsibility areas.
Ability to be agile in your approach,
This position requires advanced and demonstrated interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate, influence and obtain buy-in from stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
Previous demonstrable experience in the preparation, development, monitoring and reviewing of project plans and budgets.
