The role
As a Safety Assessment Manager, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. At Devonport Dockyard, Babcock supports the Royal Navy submarine fleet, with a number of operational nuclear and radiological facilities for the upkeep and maintenance of submarines.
Over the next 5 to 10 years, Babcock are significantly upgrading the Devonport site and as such you will have the opportunity to support the design and build of new, submarine maintenance facilities.
Day to day, you'll report to the Head of Safety Engineering within the Safety Engineering team. The role is part of the Devonport engineering function and is a key role within safety engineering having responsibility for the development of comprehensive, coherent, and optimised safety strategies and assessments for applications across our site.
- Leading a team of specialist engineering assessors.
- Interfacing with design teams, operations teams and other stakeholders.
- Liaising with external stakeholders, the MOD customer as well as defence and civil regulators.
- Supporting existing operational facilities and the design and construction of new facilities on site.
This role is full time, 35 hours based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard with hybrid working from home arrangements.
Essential experience of the Safety Assessment Manager
- Excellent engineering leader, capable of operating at all levels, with great verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience or background of working in a highly regulated industry i.e. oil and gas, nuclear, rail aviation.
- You'll need to possess great interpersonal and leadership skills and stakeholder engagement.
- Knowledge of nuclear engineering, and safety policy and assessment methodologies is extremely desirable to support this leadership role.
- It would also be beneficial to have some knowledge of submarines and the submarine enterprise.
Qualifications for the Safety Assessment Manager
- You'll be educated to Degree level in an Engineering or Scientific discipline and have relevant experience.
- Registered as a Chartered Engineer
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
