Position: Certified Nursing Assistant II
Location: Med Surg Float Pool
Schedule: 24 hours per week, Days
ABOUT THE Medical Surgical/Med Surg Float Pool DEPARTMENT AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER:
The Med/Surg float RNs provide 24/7 clinical excellence for med/surg and IMCU areas. The team consists of approximately 70 RN staff with diverse clinical expertise. Nurses must be flexible and versatile. They enjoy the challenge of the variety of experiences that the float pool provides. Float pool nurses care for medical and surgical adult and pediatric (over 15) populations as well as the IMCU patient population after specialized classes and training, and Patients in the Observation unit. Float pool nurses rise to the challenge of opening and staffing surge units when necessary. Working in the float pool hones your med-surg skills and provides a clinical overview of BMC that is unparalleled in any other med/surg area.
POSITION SUMMARY:
As a CNA in MedSurg, you will be a key member of the healthcare team at BMC. Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, our CNAs provide direct clinical and support services. Using our patient-centered care model and uplifted by a supportive nursing organization, you will participate in the delivery of care to our patients and their families. You will also work cooperatively with all healthcare team members to provide a variety of support services to meet patient, family, and staff needs.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the MedSurg department and their families.
- Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
- Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the MedSurg department.
- Contribute to the efficient operation of the MedSurg department ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- A high school diploma or GED certificate
- Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
- Ability to pass clinical competency testing
- Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
- Basic math and computer proficiency
- One of the following:
1. One year of previous experience as a CNA in an acute hospital setting
2. Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation
3. Completed an approved certified nursing assistant training
4. Completed an approved certified medical assistant training
5. One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)
- Fluency in another language a plus
- Previous medical/surgical experience preferred
