(1. Inspects general condition of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles to determine overall vehicle condition, cause of malfunction or need for repair. Diagnoses malfunctions by visual or auditory examination methods. Uses complex test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters and pressure gauges to determine exact nature or extent of repairs or adjustments necessary. Isolates malfunction cause using systematic vehicle analysis. Troubleshoots, inspects, tests and analyzes vehicle computer/electrical control systems, mechanical and hydraulic systems, lubricating, cooling, air conditioning and exhaust systems, engine electrical systems, engine fuel-air systems, electronic/pneumatic controlled automatic transmission and differentials, power dividers, power trains, brakes, steering and suspension systems. Operates general and special purpose vehicles, base maintenance and materials handling equipment, as required to support the unit mission.

2. Performs required repair of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles as assigned, using independent judgment and own initiative on the repair work. Performs Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTOs) including scheduled and special inspections. Determines when and how far major components should be torn down; what parts and mechanisms can be reworked, refitted, or replaced with new parts and the type, extent and alignment required, using technical orders, commercial manuals or local directives. Removes, rebuilds, repairs, replaces vehicle system components. Adjusts and overhauls engine mechanical systems, state of the art systems, electrical, air conditioning, fuel-air, emission control, power trains, gear reduction systems, electronic/pneumatic controlled automatic transmissions, differentials, power dividers and brakes, steering and suspension system components. Performs operational driving tests to determine serviceability.

3. Performs body repair and corrosion control; repaints and refinishes surfaces as required. Repairs and/or replaces body parts, locks, glass, etc., and determines if additional repairs are required. Uses welding equipment, power tools, hand tools and other specialized equipment. Cleans, tests and repairs radiators/oil coolers and associated parts. Incumbent replaces or repairs tires and tubes and balances wheels.

4. Prepares, maintains and submits maintenance work orders for man-hour and data collection accounting. Records work performed or delayed and parts or maintenance required. Assists in review and maintenance of technical orders, operating instructions, commercial publications, Major Command (MAJCOM) and local publications, as well as other pertinent directives. Assists in establishing and maintaining adequate bench and special stock support levels and appropriate tools and equipment. Uses and maintains shop equipment. Researches or assists in requisitioning materials, parts and equipment necessary to perform the vehicle maintenance/management mission.

5. Participates as On-the-Job Training (OJT) instructor in the vehicle maintenance area. Conducts instructional classes on methods and procedures of operation and maintenance concerning all aspects of vehicles and assigned shop maintenance support equipment. Evaluates effectiveness of instruction, maintains individual and section training and qualification records in the Air Force automated information system (AIS) of record. Plans and schedules tasks and training activities for drill status guard members. Trains assigned drill status guardsmen on the maintenance, repair, and modification of various types of motor vehicles, both gasoline and diesel powered. Develops, establishes and maintains work center training programs to train drill status guard members in mission critical tasks. Conducts unit wide training in environmental issues including Hazardous Communication (HAZCOM), Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) and other environmental related areas. Carries out various duties in support of mobilization readiness of section assigned personnel and equipment. Assists in conducting the local occupational safety and health training program, to include compliance with directives and procedures for proper disposal of hazardous waste products.

Duties for the position include but are not limited to:

• Drives, maintains and cares for all types of Government owned vehicles such as passenger cars, patient transport vehicles, wheelchair vans, and trucks up to and including one and one half tons.

As a Transportation Specialist, you will:

• Serve as a nationally recognized leader in providing technical, programmatic policy guidance to FHWA field offices, state, and local agencies, Tribal governments, and other internal and external stakeholders, to implement safety programs at all levels of government and ensure that their specific needs are met, including data needs, selection and evaluation of projects, and interpretation of Federal laws and regulations.
• Identify, plan, and implement broad national program initiatives based on new or revised legislation, regulation and policy, and lead the development and implementation of projects for outreach and public information to promote highway safety programs through FHWA field offices, states and local agencies, Tribal governments, including marketing applications of improved and innovative safety methods and practices.
• Lead strategic planning efforts to address national transportation safety priorities. Serve as a subject matter expert in promoting the awareness of Federal laws and FHWA regulations, standards, guidance, and policies.
• Lead national and interagency initiatives to improve the quality and availability of highway safety information for FHWA field offices, state and local agencies, Tribal governments, and the public. (1) Independently inspects aircraft and determines the nature and extent of repairs to be made, using applicable technical orders as guidelines. Works directly on the aircraft and its components, fulfilling such tasks as removal, repair, modification and installation of parts and assemblies, such as frames, stringers, longerons, bulkheads, beams, ribs, spars, skin, cowling, brackets, faring, access doors, panels and other related items. May be required to clear red "X" conditions.
(2) Repairs cracks in aircraft skin. Fabricates and fits patches to damaged areas, determining repair detail necessary to retain or restore original strength. Fits and trims components to aircraft such as landing gear doors, control surfaces, flaps access doors and other assemblies.
(3) Troubleshoots aircraft structural repair situations in such areas as fuselage, tails, wings, cowlings, and stabilizers. Removes, forms, fits, and installs highly stressed and double contoured skins, using hand or powered drilling and cutting tools and other metal working equipment.
(4) Aligns and balances component structures and airframe using precision measuring instruments and levels. Performs metal-to-metal bonding where delamination of surfaces and core material occurs in control surfaces.
(5) Inspects damage or deterioration and determines repair or replacement of plastic, fiberglass, composites, bonded structures, and bonded honeycomb assemblies using powered and nonpowered tools and equipment. Repairs or replaces retaining frames and installs plastic laminated blanks. Designs and constructs forming fixtures.
(6) Manufactures and ensures that metal tubing, conduits and cables are fabricated and tested in accordance with drawings and specifications. Fabricates and repairs flexible control cables.
(7) Performs fabrication of local manufactured items requited for aircraft and equipment. Work includes layout, bending, cutting, forming and assembling. Devise and calculates patterns employing the principles of triangulation, radial and parallel line development.

Job Summary  

As a Protech Calibration Technician Apprentice you will be provided mentorship and training to learn how to perform a wide range of Advanced Driver Assistance System Calibrations by following OE specifications and repair standards.  You will gain confidence as a calibration technician across a wide range of manufacturers.  Initial training is provided by Protech as well as a robust virtual support team and continuing education on new vehicle technology.  The goal will be to graduate from a Calibration Technician Apprentice to either a Protech Calibration Technician or On-Site Calibration by the end of the 7th month in this roll.

Roles & Responsibilities  

• Customer service focused, ability to develop relationships and deliver operational consistency
