Research Engineer
5G Advanced / 6G Standardization Researcher

Responsibilities:

· Conduct research for 5G-Advanced/6G (3GPP Release 20 and beyond) with focus on Layer 1/Layer 2 technologies, study related technical issues, and work on novel features or relevant techniques to create patents for inclusion into future 5G/6G standards.

· Be part of Panasonic delegation team to attend 3GPP standardization conferences, submit and discuss technical contributions with other meeting delegates.

· Work closely with Panasonic team in monitoring standard development progress and technology trend for exploring future research directions.

· Conduct simulations to support and/or evaluate research work, if applicable.

Requirements:

· Bachelor/Master/PhD degree in Electronics/Electrical/Computer Engineering or related discipline, with wireless communication background.

· Familiarity with cellular communication system such as LTE and/or 5G, and its system architecture, Physical (PHY), and/or Medium Access Control (MAC) layers, will be a plus.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand complex technical issues and propose effective solutions.

· Passion and deep interest in 5G/6G technologies, with a desire to be at the forefront of research and development in this field.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.

· 1 to 5 years of experience

We are looking for one Research Fellow for research activities in the following areas:

1. Theory and computational modeling of electromagnetism in media, plasmonic systems, and metamaterials, including cavity quantum electrodynamics.
2. Inverse design in nanophotonics or quantum nanophotonics.
3. Application of plasma modeling tools like particle-in-cell and magnetohydrodynamics to plasmonic or excitonic systems.
4. Study novel optoelectronic effects in low-dimensional materials and time crystals.

The applicants should have a Ph.D. degree (for the Research Fellow position) in Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering, or Applied Mathematics. Preference will be given to those with a strong publication record, open-minded, independent, and able to collaborate with other team members and experimental partners. Ph.D. students (graduating within 6 months) with relevant expertise are also encouraged to apply.

Technical requirements:

1. Ability to formulate physical models and solve the formulated equations analytically or numerically.
2. Strong foundation in numerical simulation, including developing and modifying existing codes to include multiple physics.
3. Solid foundation in electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, solid-state physics, material sciences, and computational methods like finite-difference-time-domain, finite-element, particle-in-cell, etc.

The Day-to-Day Activities
1. Generate data-driven hypotheses to solve key Product/Business problems
2. Use data to identify trends, spot anomalies and deepdive into their root causes
3. Partner closely with the broader product and engineering team to design and analyze experiments that drive key product decisions, deepdive into existing data to recommend new product ideas to solve for the most impactful customer problems
4. Design and own frontend and backend data specs for new products, while collaborating with engineering teams to ensure accurate and timely data collection, consolidate data from multiple sources to create integrated and scalable views that can be used to drive decision making
5. Provide catered analysis for specific products and operations, define critical business metrics and track them rigorously, and provide regular recommendations to achieve continuous improvements
6. Work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs/ pain points to scope up their problems and enhance internal processes through automation and improve productivity

Essential Experience / Criteria:
1. 1-2 year of experience in data analytics related roles analyzing large data sets and informing company strategy
2. Strong statistical knowledge, meticulous attitude towards data, and proficient in running experiments
3. Strong data visualization skills. Experience in creating dashboard reporting in Tableau, PowerBI or a similar visualization tool
4. Strong SQL skills and experience in scripting languages such as Python or R
5. Experience in building & maintaining data pipelines to serve data needs of different projects
6. Problem solver: ability to evaluate and design creative solutions for various tasks in a timely manner
7. Effective communicator: able to effectively communicate the analytical findings and convey clear messages

We have several available postdoctoral and research assistant positions at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) to work in the area of Robotics. This position focus on supporting the design of algorithm for various robotics applications.

Qualification:
- Relevant Degree in Electrical Engineering, , Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or related areas
- Strong hands on experience Preference will be given to those with prior robotics project experience such as:
1) SLAM;
2) ROS;
3) Sensor fusion;
4) Machine Learning;
5) Mobile platforms (eg: wheeled robots, legged robots); and
6) Manipulators
