As a Biological Science Technician (Plants) within the Forest & Rangelan.....
As a Biological Science Technician (Plants) within the Forest & Rangeland Ecosystem Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
- Conducting field studies and surveys to collect a variety botanical data and/or specimens
- Runs computer programs to enter, verify, manage and manipulate data and data files in automated databases and/or geographic information systems.
- Assists in conducting a variety of data analyses and prepares data summaries
- Trains new technicians and field crews in standard field data collection and analytical techniques
- Operates a government motor vehicle as an incidental driver. Operates and maintains power boats
- Compiles, analyzes and summarizes field and lab data for preparation of interim reports. Assists with verification of mathematical, statistical, and spatial computations
- Conducts library searches for literature on research projects
Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion, such as regular and recurring running, walking, or bending, walking or climbing ladders or scaffolds to observe, collect or record data
Work Environment: The work environment varies from laboratory setting to field sites and offices. The work involves moderate risks and discomforts such as high noise levels and exposure to chemicals, adverse weather conditions, and extreme temperatures that may require following special safety procedures
