• Works with the research leader and administrative officer to manage animal care, nutrition, grazing, and health programs; and supply, feedstock, and chemical inventories.
• Works with the research leader and administrative officer to coordinate fleet, infrastructure, and equipment management plans; and operational schedules.
• Participates as a team member with scientists in the research process and assumes full technical and operational responsibility for specific phases of research programs.
• Determines the methods and materials needed according to the research needs of the scientists involved.
• Operates and oversees maintenance of a wide variety of laboratory and agricultural equipment typically associated with livestock research enterprises.
• As needed, operates a variety of heavy duty on-road and off-road equipment such as tractors, trucks and trailers used to transport livestock to various research sites, snow machines, all-terrain vehicles, etc.

As a Biological Science Technician (Plants) within the Forest & Rangeland Ecosystem Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

• Conducting field studies and surveys to collect a variety botanical data and/or specimens
• Runs computer programs to enter, verify, manage and manipulate data and data files in automated databases and/or geographic information systems.
• Assists in conducting a variety of data analyses and prepares data summaries
• Trains new technicians and field crews in standard field data collection and analytical techniques
• Operates a government motor vehicle as an incidental driver. Operates and maintains power boats
• Compiles, analyzes and summarizes field and lab data for preparation of interim reports. Assists with verification of mathematical, statistical, and spatial computations
• Conducts library searches for literature on research projects

• Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies samples and supporting records.
• Maintains records and locates and compiles data from various sources.
• Keeps detailed records of experimental data.
• Performs routine and recurring techniques and studies using a variety of specialized equipment.
