The Research Fellow will conduct research on cutting-edge foundation models and their reliability issues. This role involves leading research efforts, developing innovative algorithms, managing large data sets, and ensuring the model's accuracy and reliability. This is an exciting role within PNDC that will be responsible for the development and delivery of a cutting-edge innovation projects in the area of future network assets. The post-holder will focus on laboratory-based testing and de-risking of new solutions and innovations while working with PNDC’s industrial partners.

To be considered for the role, you will:

· Possess the knowledge, skills and experience normally associated with a PhD in a relevant field or you will be educated to Honours Degree level with relevant industrial experience

· Have experience in asset management practices, data analysis and analytics.

· Have experience of the delivery of research and development projects in collaboration with industry or within an industrial context.

· Have hands on experience in liaising with clients to develop test plans, managing lab based testing projects, data capture, data analysis and compiling technical reports for industrial stakeholders.

About PNDC

Established in 2013 as one of the University of Strathclyde’s industry-facing innovation centres, PNDC is a world-class whole energy systems innovation, test and demonstration environment across multiple locations, shaping the energy transition through its leading-edge programme of work. The facilities and capabilities offered by PNDC are unique in Europe, attracting global organisations to partner with us in our combined efforts to accelerate the deployment of innovations across the whole energy system.

PNDC continues to evolve its capabilities in the established facility located in Cumbernauld and support innovation in advancing power networks and accelerating the decarbonisation of heat and transport. PNDC is investing over £20m in new capabilities with a particular focus on decarbonisation of heat and transport, and will launch a second testing facility in 2023.

Particular focus is placed on solutions that increase power system robustness and security, support the digitalisation of the entire power network sector, and those that facilitate the greater flexibility and participation of demand side innovations in the energy transition.

Decarbonisation of Heat concentrates primarily on accelerating and de-risking novel low carbon heating solutions, both at large scale (e.g. zero-carbon CHP, district heating schemes, hydrogen-for-heating) and at smaller scale addressing the domestic/small commercial scale markets (e.g. heat pumps, hydrogen boilers, solar thermal). Particular focus is also placed on the integration of novel low carbon heating technologies into the wider energy system, their control and scheduling, and the impact of consumer behaviour on technology deployment.

Decarbonisation of Transport concentrates primarily on accelerating and de-risking novel low carbon transport systems for land, marine and aero transport sectors. This covers both innovations in vehicle charging infrastructure and innovations in on board systems. Particular focus is placed on new electric drive trains and on board power systems, including a number of new components such as fuel cells, batteries, and power electronic machine and drive components.

Job Description

SIA has multiple positions for junior and senior data scientists to drive our AI, data science and business analytics initiatives.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Member of an in-house AI and data science development team that works on AI (including areas in generative AI, autonomous agent, NLP, computer vision and recommender system), mathematical optimization, game theory, and experimental design.
• Work closely with business stakeholders to create impactful and intelligent features/services in AI, data science and data analytics. Propose and build scalable ML/DL solutions. Deploy them as API microservices for use by software applications and business users for faster and more effective decision making.
• Oversee the technical work of external technology partners and provide them datasets to deliver products/services in AI and data science. Support business users in the assessment/ validation of partner-supplied prediction models and in their deployment to production cloud.
• Work closely with application development teams to operationalize and integrate AI/ML capabilities in API microservices.
• Note: You could be posted to any subsidiary in SIA Group.

Requirements

• BS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or related discipline is required. PhD and MS degrees related to machine learning and other AI disciplines are preferred.
• Intermediate programming skills in Python. Conversant with algorithm design/analysis, data structure and SQL. Familiarity with functional/object-oriented software development using modern programming languages such as Scala, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java and C# is a plus.
• Exposure in the use of workflow/map-reduce and stream processing systems such as Spark and Kafka for big-data processing.
• Relevant internship or industry experience as a hands-on data scientist/AI engineer in shallow and/or deep learning (you should be very comfortable with most topics covered in the free undergraduate textbook by Gareth James, “An Introduction to Statistical Learning – with Applications in Python”, 2023). Additional exposure in some of the following areas is a plus:

1. Use of recent proprietary/open-source LLMs through prompt engineering (such as OpenAI ChatGPT and Bing Chat). Familiarity with LLM application/data frameworks (such as LlamaIndex and LangChain).
2. Experience of using GPU-accelerated deep learning frameworks (such as PyTorch and TensorFlow).
3. Familiarity with Bayesian statistics/inference and Bayesian/causal networks for probabilistic reasoning.

About the role
Interenally, known as Fundraising and Partnerships Executive, you will support the delivery of SMG's vision in securing donations to support the ambitious masterplan of activity and the wider exhibition and learning programmes across SMG.

You will work across two teams in our Fundraising and Partnerships department - the Philanthropy team and the Trusts, Foundations and Government team.

Within this, you will play a key part in the successful delivery of the Railway Museum's Patrons programme. You will focus on developing and implementing donor communication materials, delivering a programme of special events, as well as supporting the Philanthropy team in managing their donor and prospect portfolios.

You will also support the work of the Trusts, Foundations and Government team in stewarding a wide range of funders and securing further support for SMG's existing programme of work across the group of museums.

This 12-month contract can be a great boost for your career, as you will have the opportunity to take as much as you put in. • Lead, guide and manage team members for project planning, execution and BAU support.
• Review and develop strategies for resource planning and utilization.
• Oversee the development of learning roadmaps for teams and functions.
• Establish performance indicators to benchmark effectiveness of learning and development program against best practices.
• Implement succession planning initiatives for key positions.
• Advise stakeholders toward reaching compromises and agreeing on expectations.
• Build high performance values-driven culture among the team in support of the organization's agenda.
• Lead and motivate team towards development and delivery of strategic priorities for Planning department.
• Provide daily supervision to team members, ensuring that they are motivated and equipped with skills and resources to manage their tasks respectively.
• Oversee hiring, training and coaching of team members.
• Perform other duties as and when assigned.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science or equivalent with around 5 years’ experience in providing IT services to financial institutions.
• In -depth knowledge on MSO365, Group Policy, AD Trusts, AD Sites and Services, DNS, DHCP, and DFS.
• In -depth Knowledge on Microsoft Licensing, SCCM, PC/laptop hardware and software delivery.
• Knowledge of IT service business for bank or FI.
• Comprehensive knowledge of technologies supporting asset management processes.
• Experience to handle regional projects which involve stakeholders in Japan.
• Experience supporting IT End User Service in a large organization.
• Proven experience in solution, architecture, design for desktop OS engineering, virtualization
• Experience in internal control or audit area with a deep understanding of the IT business process and systems.
• Capability to lead and drive the IT BAU related tasks with good time and stakeholder management skills and experience.
• Proactively socialize with stakeholders and maintain good relationship to steer the tasks.
• Possess strong and assertive verbal, written communication skills and presentation skills.
• Ability to work in a fast -paced environment with constantly changing priorities.
• Good bi-directional and collaborative attitude to work as a professional in a team.
• Microsoft certification – Intune, MS 365 mobility and security, Managing Modern Desktops, Modern Desktop Administrator, MS Azure certification, MCSA/MCSE.
• VMware certification - Security certifications and CCNA certification are desired for the role.
• ITIL v3 Foundations Certification.
• CPA, CIA, CFE or other related certification for corporate governance.
• Project Management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) or equivalent experiences.
